Long time no post. But what is there to say? So many creative people find that their impulse to create is truncated by the Pandemic. Many feel that it is the lack of stimulation usually obtained by talking and interacting with other people that is to blame. How many of us have never realized how much information the human face conveys during conversations? I certainly knew about the non-verbal clues the face gives us and how adept a person can get at reading another - but I h...ad no idea just how much we depend on that non-verbal conversation to supplement words. For this reason writers especially are finding the isolation of the disease very hard to take. And then depression sets in, we start blaming ourselves - God, maybe I never was that talented in the first place!! That sort of thing. Meh, hang in there, the pandemic can't last forever. And as a former radio person I hate to say this, but stop watching the "news". I really wonder what reporters/journalists will do when once the pandemic is over they actually are expected to go out there and get stories. They are restricted in modern times because of "talking points" distributed before important interviews, which must be infuriating. I suppose the good old days of lugging around a tape recorder on your hip and a mic in your hand, accosting politicians with real questions - those days are gone forever which is really, really sad. Thank God Solstice has finally arrived !!! There are many of us who weren't sure we were going to make it to the Solstice this year. I do believe I can feel the change already. For many of us, today is New Year's Day. If we keep plants on our windowsill or, in the case of the West Coast of North America or the South, we can look at our flower pots and see some new growth this very morning. It is Spring for gardeners, although we are told that it is now Winter. I keep close to the old ways and the garden tells me that it is now SPRING! Cheers, everybody! WE MADE IT.

The relapse and overdose rate has increased by 30% since March 2020. Mental health issues related to our lock down and the pandemic are especially hard for peop...le with depression. NAMI, The National Alliance on Mental Health has a 24-hour helpline: 833 456 4566 This is the Canadian phone #. Now, I’m asking my small corner of FB to follow suit: Could any two of my Facebook friends just copy and repost to share the helpline far and wide? Just two. Any two. Say done. See more

Magnetewan Publishing is one of the few feminist publishers in Canada. We focus on women's history, as in "Radio Ladies: Canada's women on the Air 1922-1975", published in 2012. We examined the effects of counselling and recovery in the trauma surrounding stalking and rape in 2016 with "Rape and After: The Counselling Path", and then we took on a collection of short stories written by a man - author Craig Dunn - with his "Toronto Tales - Growing Up In Greenwood" which is st...ill a work-in-progress due to the author's health. For publishing information about "Toronto Tales" please see our website (address below). And work continues on another book to be released next year Covid-willing - "Child Abuse (You Survived) by M.M. Scriven. Interviews with psychiatrists and researchers looking at the physical effects on the brains of children who have been abused has produced some amazing insights into their problems as adults. Scriven weaves a tale of survival among in amongst the professional research to produce a book that will encourage abuse survivors as they look towards rebuilding their lives. And that is our library of authors and works to date - as the owner of Magnetewan Books I am very pleased and proud to have created a respected, niche publishing house that is small but excellent. http://www.radioladies.ca See more
