This gorgeous couple celebrated their anniversary last week. . I loved Lissa’s bouquet. It was beautifully simple. Lisianthus, spray roses, roses and greenery. Nothing overwhelming, nothing over the top. Everything tied together so wonderfully that it created picture perfect moments. . I was supposed to recreate this bouquet for a wedding this past weekend. On Thursday it was communicated, by email of course, that the wedding was being moved and they no longer required my ser...vices. Flowers already ordered and in stock ready to design with. . As Murphy and his law would have it, I declined taking a deposit. Which I have done in the past but not with this result. I’m usually pretty good at reading a room but this one got me. In fact, I haven’t taken any deposits after the pandemic outbreak. A time where I felt we needed to be a bit more trusting and reflective in times of uncertainty and worry. . I won’t let this change me as a person. As a business, unfortunately it did. . Everything will now have a deposit before flower orders are placed. Contracts will be created formally for future weddings. . Simple. Just like this love, just like this bouquet, just like we have operated for 11 years, is all I have ever strived for. I hate complicated anything. I hate red tape and useless documents. I also hate that I am stuck with wedding flowers that won’t feed my family or pay my staff. . Every year. . Every year I try to steal time. I don’t know when I began to notice it passing. I think when my Mom passed is when it started. . I feel it’s hurried step on my heals, almost scrapping them, trying to pass faster then I can keep up but wanting for it so badly to slow down.... . This pandemic has had many silver linings if you look for them. Time one on one with my Dad as he was passing. Time with my husband completing (or arguing) on home projects. Time with my girls. . Off to university and into grade 11 this year. I have always told my husband that after 14, time with them would be difficult. Social schedules, summer jobs - far more important then us. And we have felt that. . Thankfully a family member offered us sometime to getaway at their little piece of paradise - and I stole it. Time that is. . I made the girls take the time, sorry @amy_kirklnd , I literally stole them. Work halted, the long car ride ensued. . Playing cards, sitting by the water quietly fishing, kayaking on the lake, reading and talking. That’s where you’ll find us for the next few days. . After this, life gets real again. Back to jobs, school shopping, prepping text books and learning online schedules. . Outside of this floral world I show you every day, are these humans and this is my most precious world. . My Mom used to tell and correct me when I would be showing jealousy towards a family that had more then us, got the new clothes, got to participate in sports, had a new car - just because it looks pretty on the outside, doesn’t mean it is on the inside. No one knows what happens behind closed doors. . I learned not to be jealous. It’s not my thing. I also learned that my Mom was right. I’ve learned to fertilize & water my own grass, keep it green. Stops you from looking at someone else’s. . I’ve also learned that it’s a lot more work then most think to create something. A bouquet, a boutonnière, a business. . Friends, it may look like we are all doing well on the outside. For some of us it may be true, for a lot of us - we are using really good makeup. . September is coming.
