Magnolia Quilting Studio 13.01.2021

Here is a little wall hanging that I just quilted using one of our designs called Script. It's a wonderful edge-to-edge pattern that can be made very small, like I did here, or larger for use on bigger quilts. It added a nicely swirly texture to the background on this piece, sort of like swirling snow. I couldn't resist adding a little bit of extra ruler and freehand quilting on the trees. All the outlining and ruler work on the trees was done with my favourite little ruler, ...Edgie 6, from @SillyMoonQuiltingCo. I've have been working on a lot of bigger projects lately so it was a fun to do a little project and just play. #magnoliaquiltingstudio #scriptpantograph #edgetoedgequilting #sillymoonquiltingco #edgie6 See more

Isn't this a fun baby quilt?! What little boy wouldn't love these playful dinosaurs. Terry created this quilt using the Elizabeth Hartman Dinosaurs pattern. We added a fun quilting design called Honeycomb Effect which ended up looking like scales on the dinos. Very fun! This is one of our newer designs and I think it's going to be a popular one because it can be used on many styles of quilts. #magnoliaquiltingstudio #honeycombeffectpanto #elizabethhartmanpatterns

I've been a little bit obsessed with making Flying Geese blocks lately. Not sure why but I find it very relaxing to chain piece them. And then there's the pressing. I love it! Crazy, right?! Well, all that stitching and pressing came together in this fun quilt that I call Coming and Going because the Geese are going in two different directions (like ours do when they migrate north and south). Just for fun I laid them out in a sort of 'V' shape just like they do when they fly. The fabric line I used is Day in Paris from Moda and there is minky on the back which makes it extra cuddly. Quilted it with one of my favourite pantographs, Circles of Life and Glide thread in Cool Grey 3. This came together so nicely I may just have to make another one! I think there may be more Flying Geese in my future LOL.

What a pretty quilt to have for the holidays! Terry finished this one in September and brought it to us with a request for a special design so we found a pantograph that had cardinals, holly and berries on it that was the perfect complement to the quilt blocks. The pantograph is called Christmas Cardinal. It is a lovely edge-to-edge design that adds just the right amount of texture without being too dense. We used Glide thread in Khaki as it blended well with the metallics in... some of the prints and worked beautifully on the background. It may seem like an odd colour choice but Khaki is a wonderful neutral that works with so many different colours. In the closeup photos you can see more detail of the actual design. When we took the quilt off the frame we were delighted to see that one of the cardinals is actually perched on a tree branch. We couldn't have planned it any better. See more

Things are looking a little spooky in the studio today. So much fun doing the custom design on this Hallowe’en quilt for Bev. Can’t wait to show it to you when it’s finished.

Kathi D. recently brought this quilt to me for longarming and she wasn't sure if she wanted an all over design or custom quilting so we went over some of the options and decided that it really called out for custom quilting so that all her beautiful applique would really stand out. The background is a soft ivory so we chose Glide thread in Linen because it blended well with many of the fabrics. The quilting was done in stages. First all the applique was outlined and I did st...itch in the ditch around the inner section and all the dresdens and stars. Once all that had been done it was time to add echo quilting around the applique in the four corner triangles. This provided some lovely texture around the applique. A custom motif was added to all the larger open areas and a ribbon candy design finished off the sashing strips between the blocks. To enhance the center applique block a light meander was done which left the applique as the star of the block. Kathi was very pleased with the overall effect and was happy that she chose custom quilting for her quilt. See more

This fun quilt recently came to us for longarming. Isn’t it cute? I love how Terry included so many of the wonderful things that we associate with autumn. Choosing the right design for this quilt was so easy. We had just gotten a new pantograph called Pumpkin Fest and it was the perfect design to complement all the different blocks. This pantograph has pumpkins and leaves that meander in a curvy patter from edge to edge. Glide thread in Linen blended really well with all the... fabrics. It’s one of our favourite neutrals. The back of the quilt is ivory coloured Minky that shows the design beautifully. What a great autumn quilt for those cooler days. #magnoliaquiltingstudio #pumpkinfestpantograph #longarmquiltinglangley #habanddash See more

I had the privilege of quilting this amazing quilt that was made by my friend Kathy for the granddaughter of a friend of hers that had recently passed away. Kathy’s friend Ron was a very talented woodworker and he made cutting boards with this design so Kathy recreated it in a quilt. Kathy didn’t have a pattern, just a picture to work from and she told me it looks just like one of Ron’s creations. I love how it turned out. We chose a design called Woodgrain for the quilting ...and Glide thread in Mocha to complement the fabric colours. I love hearing all the stories behind the quilts that my customers make. They truly are gifts from the heart. #magnoliaquiltingstudio #woodgrainpantograph #glidethread #longarmquiltingservices See more
