Wishing you all a very happy holiday season.
*** Event Cancelled due to Covid *** Get your natural creative juices flowing during a fun-filled afternoon with Tara and Frauke and create a unique and gorgeou...s 16" wreath. The perfect way to kick off the festive season! Enjoy the scent of the freshly harvested balsam fir while you create in a beautifully rustic barn filled with carols to set the festive mood. We will also provide freshly harvested juniper and pine, as well as decorative accents like berries, pinecones, bows, cinnamon sticks and more! All tools will be provided. Sample a selection of hot drinks and delicious cookies while your craft is taking shape. Weather permitting, we may even have a bonfire! Note, the barn is not heated, so please dress warmly. For social distancing we will also set up a big table in front of the barn and will have a patio propane heater. The number of participants will be limited to meet Covid restrictions. We recommend bringing an apron and gardening gloves to prevent the sap from getting on your clothes. Sunday, November 29, 2020 from 1-4 pm Registration fee is 55.00 + HST A limited number of wreath kits will also be available for purchase ($15), if you’d like to make more at home. Each kit includes a wreath ring, green floral wire, pinecones and pegs to fasten your decorative accents. To register, please contact Frauke @ 902-531-2284 or [email protected]. #riverridgelodge #visitmahonebay #mahonebay #wreathmaking #novascotiasouthshore #christmascrawl Nova Scotia's South Shore
I recieved a phone call, probably a month ago, from the Town of Mahone Bay asking me if I had a more ecological solution to their wreath laying ceremony for Rem...emberance Day. I was so happy to hear this. It's something I've thought about for years. Instead of the standard styrofoam and plastic wreath, which in many ways is easy and dependable, I suggested we use real evergreens and reusable poppy flowers made of metal. They decided in was important to financially support the Royal Canadian Legion by buying their plastic flowers this year and consider other options in the future. This wreath is composed of: Fir: Symbol of adaptability, elevation, will Cedar: Symbol of strength, prosperity, longevity, rememberance, protection Cypress: Symbol of death, mourning, grief Poppies: Symbol of eternal sleep, repose, consolation to the sick I'm glad we uphold these ceremonies. It's important to have reverence for the sacrifices of our ancestors. #remembranceday #royalcanadianlegion #lestweforget #wreathceremony #veterans #townofmahonebay #mahonebay #greenalternatives

Members of the Mahone Bay Garden Club visited Cosby’s nursery on a beautiful fall afternoon. Thank you to Ivan Higgins for giving us a tour of his property and the Concrete Creations. We were also interested in the wonderful variety of plants and shrubs in the gardens and the amazing sculptures throughout the woods. What a glorious Nova Scotia afternoon with spectacular fall colours and of course the opportunity to buy at the nursery. Over the winter Ivan will be busy creating more concrete sculptures.
Talking Trees is pleased to be partnering with Coastal Action and The Town of Mahone Bay for a community tree planting! We need volunteers to sign up to help with this project!
Over the years the Peace Garden in Mahone Bay has been full of colourful blooms in the summer. Unfortunately this year, there were no flowers as all the buds were eaten by deer!
