Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 21.11.2020

If you saw our post from last week you'll know we've introduced a new wine feature. We're opening one bottle of something cool to serve by the glass until the bottle is gone. The selections will lean towards the unique, the limited, the fancy - wines we don't typically do by the glass. If you really like it you can grab a full bottle or take one to go. Next up is Cirelli Trebbiano Anfora 2018, an orange wine from Abruzzo, Italy. If you're unfamiliar or curious about orange (a...ka skin-contact) wine here's a primer. They are white wines made like red wines. White grape juice is left to ferment on its skins, extracting colour, body and tannin, for varying amounts of time - sometimes hours, sometimes months. Agricola Cirelli is a certified organic farm where wine is made in a very natural way. This bottling is vinified and aged in anfora (big clay pots). Aromas of flowers and straw, yellow fruits and aromatic herbs. Lightly textured and bright. A great introduction to the style. . . .

Introducing the Yamityville, one of the signature cocktails on our latest menu. Created by @n.friars, this cocktail feels very seasonal with the inclusion of a spiced sweet potato syrup. Its rich, viscous, sweet and boozy with notes of warming spices and a subtle bitter finish to balance it out. We want to slurp this one by a fire but since we can't have open flame on the patio it's best to drink indoors (while we're still allowed). Fun Fact - we had fun naming this one, with... Space Yam being a close runner-up to Yamityville Horror, which we ended up abbreviating to Yamityville. Cazadores anejo tequila Lucano amaro Spiced sweet potato syrup Saline

Claus Preisinger's Puszta Libre! - an unlikely favourite from last year. Back in stock and available by the glass for a limited time. As a way to feature new or unusual or fancy wines that we stock in our bottle shop, we'll be selecting a wine to pour by the glass until that bottle is gone. It might take an hour or a day or a week to go through (don't worry, we have preservation systems) but it will give you the opportunity to try something different that's not on our regular... by-the-glass list. We're not sure what season it is anymore but this seems like the perfect wine for right now, a light red that you drink chilled. It's wild, vibrant and crushable, a bit spicy with crunchy red berry fruit. A blend of Zweigelt and St. Laurent that drinks like an Austrian beaujolais. It's organic, bio-dynamic, low sulphur - that's good for you and good for the earth.

Introducting another new signature cocktail. Fly on the Wall - Flor de Caña rum, Averna amaro, lime, falernum, mole bitters. Fingers crossed the rain holds out so we can enjoy these summer temps. Patio (weather dependent) and indoors open at 5pm!

Spooky sounding beers just in time for spooky season. Bellwoods Witchshark - Double IPA Vanilla and grapefruit juice aromas, with a bittersweet grapefruit pith character on the palate. Juicy and well balanced!... Bellwoods Donkey Venom - Barrel Aged Dark Fruited Sour Dark, complex, and layered. Funky, with notes of cacao and oak. Black forest cake vibes, sweet yet brooding and balanced. Blood Brothers Black Hand - Stout Rich and creamy with chocolaty espresso notes. Comforting goodness. @talesfromthebottleshop @folie__a__une

Our version of hummus . One of our vegan options, we switch up the toppings and an ingredient or two from time to time. Our current offering incorporates the very seasonal buttercup squash, topped with smoky chile scallion oil, crushed sesame, cumin and salt. Buttercup squash courtesy of @our_farm_organics @dwfmarket

NEW MENU LAUNCH Last week we quietly launched some new items including signature cocktails, beer, wines by the glass and food. We'll be highlighting some over the next couple of weeks but the best way to find out what's new is to come for a visit and try them! If you're still committed to outdoor dining then we also have hot apple cider, with or without booze, to keep you warm. Pictured here are two of our new signature cocktails.... Phoenix - Woodford Reserve bourbon, Golden Pear liquer, lemongrass bitters, lemon oil Cousin of Death - Smoked chile and cinnamon infused Sombra joven mezcal, fresh pressed carrot turmeric juice, orange, lemon, simple syrup

Another new addition to our snacks menu. There is a lot of flavour in this little sandwich. Layers of mortadella, pickled celery, green chili mayo on a toasted mini brioche bun.

We're too excited not to share this good news. Yesterday, the provincial government announced that takeout booze is here to stay. We've been getting our bottle shop set up for a while now. We're still arranging and pricing and writing tasting notes for your buying convenience but safe to say this will be a permanent feature of our bar - and a dream come true! More details to come.

T-shirts and totes! We've had these for a while now and we're already on our second run of t-shirts. A few sizes still available and more coming soon. Design by @muradical, skeleton artwork commissioned by @darthvetor and @n.friars, model @folie__a__une. Patio still going strong. Open at 5pm.

A personal note from co-owner, Sarah: On July 22, 2020 I lost my father, Brian Dewar, to cancer. He was much too young and it happened much too fast. He was an affable guy who loved my mother, my sister and I and his extended family. He had strong bonds with life long friends and loved to have a good time. He loved scotch and pig roasts, classic cars and classic rock, and the beach community where he lived for 44 years. He loved to cook and had a way of making you feel welcom...ed. He was kind and generous. This is likely where I get my love of hospitality. He was proud of Maiden Lane and what we had built. Its been one of the hardest things for me to accept - that he wont be around to see us grow. My very thoughtful cousin Cheryl, a cancer survivor herself, has organized a walk (Uncle Brians Walk) on Saturday, September 12th in honour of my dad. It started as a way for my cousins, many of whom are spread out across the country, to celebrate his memory as a family. Participants are gathering at Maiden Lane afterwards so weve decided to make a night of it and incorporate some fundraising efforts throughout the evening. $2 from every Scotch whisky or Scotch based drink will be donated to the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation @windsorccf which serves as the official fundraising arm for the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre. It may be a small gesture but its a way to acknowledge and bring awareness to the place that took such good care of my father. If youd like to make a donation without a purchase thats fine too! This event has come together fairly last minute so well announce any updates here. Were also trying to arrange for another food vendor and just for fun we have the talented Hwalter Senko coming to play us some Billy Joel and Elton John covers between 7pm and 9pm. If you know me personally, youll know how much this pleases me! Wed love for you to raise a glass with us this Saturday to celebrate a special cause and a very special guy that I miss very much. . . .

Plan on visiting us this weekend? Please read. We wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who came out for our last The Butcher's Table popup and extended patio last weekend. It feels like fall is officially settling in. We intend to keep our patio open for as long as possible and that will largely be dictated by you, but for those of you who would prefer to be indoors we need to make sure our covid policies are well understood. We'll do our best to keep you safe if you can... return the favour. These are pretty standard rules but subject to change at any time. We are required to take your name and number for the purposes of contact tracing. Masks must be worn at all times, when entering the bar, when using the restrooms, when exiting the bar - anytime you are not seated. Once seated, we ask that you remain seated with the group you arrived with. Here's the part where we get serious - we really need you to follow these rules for the sake of our staff, our customers and our business. Having to enforce these rules is no fun, especially for an industry that's already stretched and stressed. We can't afford to lose customers because they don't feel safe in our space. If you think wearing a mask is bogus, that's your business, but so long as you're in our place of business we'll respectfully request that you abide by these rules. We apologize if this ask feels abrupt but it's so important and we want to survive the winter. This is how you can help us. By the way, most of you have been amazing! Thank you! This is how we're doing our part: Tables have been removed and spaced accordingly and therefore total capacity has been reduced. High touch surfaces (ie. bathrooms, debit terminals, door handles, etc...) are sanitized regularly. Plexiglass barriers have been placed on the bar and bar stools have been spread out. Our HVAC system is barely a year old, ensuring an exchange of air is always occurring (we cursed this expense during renovations but are happy to have it now!). We've also invested in patio heaters for those of you who would still prefer to sit outdoors. We are navigating these challenging times together so we also ask for your patience as we figure out how to best implement the ever changing and often vague guidelines that our municipal and provincial governments are mandating. We're working out the kinks as we go and our hope is that once indoor dining becomes more common these rules will become second nature. Thank you for reading and understanding. Have a great weekend all!

@thebutcherstablewindsor pop-up - back tonight for round two of South American inspired street food. Food service starts at 5pm until sold out. Looks like any chance of rain has passed but weve secured a few patio umbrellas in case of drizzle. Dont let it stop you from enjoying whats left of patio season. Heres a few shots from last night.... By @muradical

Bar seating is back! We know how much some of you have missed sitting at the bar. We found an amazing local company, Unique Impressions, who worked with us to design a solution that suited our space, was minimally invasive and that ensured the safety of our guests and staff alike - matte black metal framed plexiglass barriers that sit directly on the bar requiring zero installation with pass throughs for taller glassware. They turned out better than we imagined.

This dynamic duo will be back all weekend serving up some South American inspired street food. Weve created some cocktails to complement - think pisco, cachaa, rum. If you were wondering..... The bar opens at 4pm today, Friday, Sept 4 with food service starting at 6pm and were getting another early start on Saturday, Sept 5 with bar and food service starting at 5pm.... Food can be purchased directly from The Butchers Table tent and enjoyed on our patio. They take debit, credit and cash. Our regular beverage and food menu is in full effect as well. Looks like another beautiful late summer weekend but expect some cool, crisp evenings. Bring a sweater if you plan to linger into the night. First come, first served - no resos needed. Come hang! . . .

UPDATES. Summer isn't over yet and we're taking advantage of every last drop. The @thebutcherstablewindsor is back for the final weekend of September and the last of the downtown street closures. If the weather is nice, and the forecast is calling for warmth and sunny skies, we'll be operating exclusively outdoors for this event. Menu to be announced soon. The Downtown Arts Fair is also taking place on Saturday and Sunday from 3 to 8 on University Ave. Check out @downtownwind...sor for more info. Remember that little Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation fundraiser we had on Sept 12th? We're happy to say we raised over $1400 with just a couple days of promotion! Thank you! Some of that was thanks to this special drink, 'Pigs Can Fly', made with Dewar's blended scotch whisky, soon to make a permanent appearance on our menu. Dad would be proud. As dining transitions from outdoors to indoors, we'll be working on some changes to our cocktail and food menus. Some new wine and beers coming too. . . .

An unexpected mention in @blogto. We'll take it! Honoured to be in such good company. Thanks @twepi. Just google 'blogto' and 'windsor' and the article will pop up. We also wanted to thank all of you who came out on Saturday to support our @windsorccf fundraising efforts whether through a purchase, direct donation or via the other online options we shared. It was very touching and we appreciate the support and love you showed us. We'll share the results soon. It's another bea...utiful patio day. September is treating us well. We are now seating indoors and outdoors but encouraging outdoor seating while the weather co-operates. . . . See more

The bar will be closed as well since were still outdoor seating only. Good news is that Saturday afternoon looks bright and sunny and to make up for lost time well be getting started at 5pm instead of 7pm. If you had plans to join us tonight we hope you can reschedule for tomorrow.

Phase 3, Swag, Beer, Wine and BBQ Phase 3 - Although we are now allowed to host you indoors weve decided to continue with outdoor seating only, until the end of August, and re-evaluate at that time. Summer has graced us with gorgeous weather and were really digging our patio these days so why not run with it? Swag - We have t-shirts and totes! Our first run of t-shirts sold out before we could promote them . We have more coming very soon.... Beer and Wine - We are setting up a bottle shop! COVID did come with some silver linings. Since we can continue selling beer and wine to go, were setting up a dedicated area in the bar to better facilitate that. Soon youll be able to stop in and browse our selection of beer and wine, most of which is not available at the LCBO. Our resident beer specialist @talesfromthebottleshop is working on expanding our beer offerings as well. Good things coming! BBQ - We have a super special event coming up at the end of August which you wont want to miss. More details on all of this in the coming days. Stay tuned!

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 08.05.2020

Well be delaying our hours today and opening at 5pm to give us time to discuss Phase 3 with our staff. Please note, were still unsure as to when well start seating guests indoors. Were enjoying the extended patio and may continue to ride the wave if it feels safer to do so. We will keep you updated here. As always, thanks for your understanding and patience.

Last night was gorgeous, tonight not so much. We will be closed tonight due to rain. We promise to fill this feed with good news soon. Hoping for sunny days ahead. Enjoy your evening everyone .

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 04.04.2020

Were open this weekend although our kitchen will be closed for a few more days due to some unexpected circumstances. Sometimes life happens and you have to adapt and adjust. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding. We will have a few snacks available. Apologies if anyone has called and left a message regarding a reservation or a general inquiry and has not received a call back. Some messages were lost over the last two days. We encourage you to email us at [email protected] or message us via Instagram and someone will get back to you at our earliest convenience. Its going to be a beautiful weekend. Enjoy it.

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 27.03.2020

So sorry for the short notice but we will be closed tonight.

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 10.03.2020

Check out this beautiful feature from @bordercityliving pre covid. Were thankful for the opportunity to work with like minded business owners regarding downtown and all of its great potential . Link to full blog post in bio.... #Repost @bordercityliving If youre gearing up for a patio-filled, social, summer weekend, @maidenlanewinespirits is a must visit! Heres why you should spend more time downtown! Now that the pandemic has thrown us into a world with limited choices for entertainment, were more grateful than ever to have this fantastic option that caters to working professionals, like the three of us. Together with Sommelier co-owner, Sarah Dewar, Mark Dutka has crafted an experience inspired by the regimented and precise, Japanese-style cocktail culture, with a carefully selected list of wines that cant be found at any LCBO. The concept of a craft cocktail bar seemed far-fetched to those who remembered downtown solely for kiddy bars, vodka cransand Sweet Home Alabama. Thankfully these owners knew we all deserved something better, and if Windsorites will happily walk downtown Detroit, our residents should understand (after a small mental shift) that population density is what downtown needs when you want a city to change, spend more time in urban areas, at special places like this! Marks commitment to his elevated standards is as permanent as his Death Before Sour Mix tattoo. We actually had no idea how deep this subculture runs until our afternoon chat with Mark. For example, we now know that a bartenders handshake is an unspoken ritual of many a hospitality industry vet: a revered go-to drink from one barkeep to another. Its equal parts secret password, insiders wink, and sign of solidarity. In Windsor youll end up with a shot of Fernet Branca, and pre-covid they were going through about a bottle a day. Continued in comments...

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 24.02.2020

Were still proud of what weve built downtown. Thank you for the beautiful feature Border City Living and for making us your first social stop.

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 14.02.2020

Its raining, folks. Postponing our hours until 6pm, possibly later if needed, so check back here for updates. Looks like clear skies tonight though! Fingers crossed.

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 31.01.2020

Thank you Windsor for making our first week back such a success. It was great to see so many familiar faces and some new ones too. We appreciate everyone for being patient and kind while we figured things out (probably figuring things out for a while tbh ). A special thanks to the DWBIA @downtownwindsor and city council for working hard to have street closures approved so quickly, allowing us to spill into Maiden Lane. It was lovely and we hope this becomes permanent. Today... we return to our regular hours (Tues - Thurs 4pm to 12am, Fri 4pm to 1am, Sat 6pm to 1am) but we will adjust as needed if these hours no longer make sense. Our outdoor only operations are dependent on the weather and we will post last minute closures or delayed hours on Facebook/Instagram. We also have new cocktails, new wines and new beers! Pictured is the Lose Your Rind by @darthvetor. It is the ultimate thirst quencher. Dont let the poultry spice scare you. It totally works. We are back! Hope to see you all soon

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 03.01.2020

Windsor is entering stage 2! Please note, we are temporarily suspending our takeout service so we can put all of our energy into preparation for reopen next week. There are syrups to be made, wine to be restocked, produce to be purchased and safety protocols to be put in place. We will announce an exact date in the coming days. We look forward to seeing you!

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 25.12.2019

We realize weve been quiet over here. Although weve been plugging away at a bit of take-out, sometimes a pause, especially when it comes to social media, is in order. We mostly suck at it anyway. These are emotional, uncertain times but they are not without a beacon of light. Hospitality has been hit hard, hospitality workers have been hit hard and Windsor has been hit hard but we know that our patio will soon be open and that our staff will have a job to come back to. Wev...e also been taking this time to listen and learn about the Black Lives Matter movement and discussing how we can support. We feel weve created a space that is safe and welcoming for all but we are actively reviewing this to determine how we can do better. This is immensely important to us. This past Friday, June 12th, we quietly celebrated our 1 year birthday. On Tuesday, we started to prep our patio for reopen and yesterday we found out we were awarded the Tourism Windsor Essex Best of Windsor Essex Art of the Cocktail award. Thank you!! Wed like to think this award is more than simple recognition for how we mix a drink but rather the measure of the overall experience someone has when they visit us. None of this would have been possible without our hard working staff and the support of our guests and community. We recognize and appreciate you. Better times are coming and we cannot wait to see you all again soon. PS. In case you forgot what our space looks like heres a shot from our opening week one year ago.

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 17.12.2019

We will be closed this Friday, June 12th. Any orders placed on Thursday can be delivered or picked up on Saturday, June 13th. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 12.12.2019

Entering week three of takeout. For all of you who have placed an order for pickup or delivery, some with very thoughtful words of encouragement, your support means more to us than you likely realize. We know we are not an essential service. We probably arent feeding families and we know our offerings are more for pleasure than sustenance. Youre ordering because you want to, not because you have to and for that we are truly grateful. Check out our website, in bio, for all the details including menus and ordering instructions. Orders placed by 7pm can be ready for delivery or pickup the following day. Were currently open Wednesday to Saturday. Thanks @muradical for the groovy graphic .

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 29.11.2019

Thanks for including us, Windsor Star

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 19.11.2019

Hello! We are excited to announce that we will now be doing food and drink to go. We have wine, we have beer, we have cheese and meat and lots of other goodies to sell so were going to give takeout a try. All bottles have been marked down from our dine in prices and our food menu has been downsized. Weve come up with a plan but we ask for your patience while we figure out the logistics of going from a 100% dine in bar to a 100% takeout joint. The plan is subject to change.... Heres how its going to work. Send your orders to [email protected] by 7pm for delivery or pick up the following day. Orders will be fulfilled Wednesday to Saturday, so for example, have your order in by Tuesday at 7pm if you would like to have your order ready for Wednesday. Deliveries will be made within Windsor city limits from 12pm to 3pm. Pickups can be made from 3:30pm to 6pm at the bar. Address is 494 Pelissier St. Minimum order of $50 pre tax for free delivery otherwise we will charge a $5 fee. Our first day of service will be this Friday. Due to previous commitments, we will only be doing pickup that day from 12 to 3 - no delivery. Normal hours commence starting on Saturday. Please visit our website for our menu and full details. http://www.maidenlanewindsor.com

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 08.11.2019

Hospitality is undoubtedly one of the hardest hit industries. Over 1 million hospitality workers were laid off last week alone. We need concrete and immediate support from government to ensure our businesses survive and these workers have a job to return to when this pandemic is over. We need more than loans and deferrals. Please share. Please visit www.savehospitality.ca to learn more. @savehospitality.ca #savehospitalityca #onetable

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 05.11.2019

We are live with online gift card sales! Visit our website www.maidenlanewindsor.com to purchase. Its still a little glitchy on some devices and the formatting isnt perfect but we need to get this out into the world. DM us if you need assistance. A huge thanks our neighbour Allie Mistakidis from Whiskeyjack Boutique for helping to set up our Shopify account. All we really want to do is get back behind the bar but until then were working on other ways to keep doing business. As of today were allowed to sell booze to-go so stay tuned for more details on our plan to bring some killer beverages directly to your home. Were also working on some swag - totes, t-shirts, etc... Until then, stay well and stay home. Miss you all.

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 16.10.2019

A few days ago, taking extra precautions seemed like the right thing to do. A mere few days later and shutting down seems like the right thing to do. It feels like a moral obligation. At this moment, we simply want to get the message out that weve made the decision to close the bar until further notice. Were already dreaming up creative ways to lessen the blow to our business and to our staff but unfortunately nothing is certain and everything is unknown. If anything changes or we have news to share, we will post it here. Take care of each other and we will see you all very soon.

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 02.10.2019

At the risk of sounding trite (already), we want to let you know that were taking extra precautions to help keep our guests and team safe. Weve amped up all of our regular cleaning procedures and added some additional ones to help mitigate your totally justified fears and concerns. In addition to the usual and constant hand washing and sanitization of glassware and dishware (we have the hottest dishwasher of all time, just ask our staff and the health inspector) well be ma...king a few other changes including serving all charcuterie and cheese on plates instead of wood boards, reprinting menus regularly, wiping down debit terminals, door handles and other surfaces with increased frequency and more. If we can find hand sanitizer well provide that too. Right now, the goal is to balance the realities of operating a small business with the safety of our team and valued customers. We wish we could send you a cocktail or a glass of wine through Skip the Dishes but we cant. That means were totally dependent on the public supporting our establishment in person. We hope youll continue to do so as long as youre feeling well. Wishing you continued health ~ from all of us at Maiden Lane. If you do decide to visit us this weekend definitely try our feature cocktail, the Timeline, pictured above. Weller Special Reserve Bourbon @wellerbourbon Aperol @aperolcanada Peach tea Lemon bitters Absinthe Ground cherry garnish

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits 22.09.2019

We have lots of cool new additions coming to our wine list but were already mourning the impending departure of this one as were down to the last case.
