On a positive note, I’m delighted to report that my friends in Portugal are returning to a somewhat normal existence, restaurants have reopened in Porto at 50% capacity, allowing individuals to slowly return to some form of socialization. It’s been so hard to exist without friends and family, and eating in a group is the centre of making us feel loved and valued. One of my favourite restaurant experiences in Portugal was the second location of @jnquoiasia with it’s rich and o...pulent chinoiserie interiors by the brilliant renowned architect, #LazaroRosaViolan. I am always stunned by his work and this restaurant is no exception. Because the Portuguese were sailors, the concept of the cuisine and the decor represented in the restaurant reflect a deep heritage of expedition, travel and history to India and Asia. One of my last exciting discoveries in Portugal was meeting with fine linens manufacturer, Principe Real Exnovais. Operating since 1938, for over 90 years, Principe is one of the oldest and most exceptional makers of fine linens in Europe. They have produced for European nobility, world leaders, diplomats and celebrities across the continent. Each embroidery is done entirely by hand without any machines. I choose some of my favourite motifs to bring home; sets of linen placemats with the rose of Angola, tiger lilies, bunches of mimosas and coloured flowers, parrots and peacocks; guest hand towels with bouquets of flowers and cotton hand towels with flowers.
