If we could only give you one piece of financial advice it would be Pre-planning is the best way to avoid financial stress. If there’s anything this past year taught us, it’s the importance of preparing for the unexpected.... We recommend you have at least 3 months’ worth of salary put aside in case of unemployment, medical emergency, or unexpected home repairs. Think of your emergency fund as an insurance policy. A great way to get started is by opening an account that you won’t be able to easily access from your debit card. Next, you’ll need to determine the amount you’d like to contribute and the frequency. Set up these payments as automatic transfers from your primary bank account. Try scheduling these transfers for the same day you get paid. This way you won’t notice money leaving your account. It may feel like a hassle right now, but this is a great way to build healthy financial habits. You’ll be glad you did when/if that rainy day arrives! Do you have an emergency savings fund? A growing family doesn’t always mean a bigger home. To be honest, downsizing has been great for us. We’ve gotten a lot more comfortable with small space living and have realized this has the potential to open doors for us in the future. With the money we’re able to save, we could buy more rental properties or maybe even a cottage! We’ve been spending most of our time outside since we’re just steps away from the kids’ school and a nearby park. My husband misses our two-car... garage, but he agrees the trade-off is worth it. When we’re in the house together we spend most of our time in the main floor playroom. We weren’t sure about two bedrooms, but our daughter has her own room and our youngest sleeps with us.
