Greetings from the Maitland District Volunteer Fire Dept. I hope this post finds you all well. We are roughly a week into this self isolation experiment and it's time we overcame our boredom and Netflix bingeing and began to consider the circumstances of our friends and neighbours. Some of us may have mobility issues while many of us are hesitant to leave our homes. This could present a problem for them.... Food security and prescription medications are just a few that when compiled with isolation, can leave members of our community extremely vulnerable. Maitland's Volunteer firefighters are here to help. Well, that didn't take long. No fires until 7pm. Your ludicrous pile of brush from the hurricane will have to wait a bit.

We will be open again as a comfort center today for charging electronics, washroom facilities and getting water. We also have two stoves if anyone would like to cook food,.

No burning restrictions today. Nice day to make s'mores abd listen to the generator. Maybe share your marshmallows with the folks working so hard to get the power back on. If you don't have a generator, swing by the fire hall. You can charge your phone, get some water, and maybe get a cup of coffee.

With a large portion of our area still without power, we will be open again today for a comfort centre if anyone needs water or electronics charged.
