Do not add honey to water that is boiling, as the temperature will destroy the beneficial qualities of the honey. Too much sugar in your diet is not good, regardless of whether it is coming from honey or processed sugars. Monitor your intake to ensure that you are not putting yourself at risk for type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Whether you suffer from ASTHMA or are easily irritated by AIR POLLUTION keeping lungs healthy and airways clear doesnt always have to be approached with a cocktail of pharmaceuticals. Instead, there are several herbal solutions that have helped people keep their respiratory system healthy for centuries. From viruses to allergieshere are several herbal tools that can help you breathe easier. 1. Thyme is a common herb with a mythical past, where ancient Greek soldiers were ...given the plant before battle to bolster their courage. It also seems that thyme may have helped them breathe easy as they swung their swords. Its excellent for whooping cough, bronchitis, and asthma. It also soothes a sore throat, so is a great option when hit with a respiratory infection. Put it in an infusion (tea) or inhale the vapors. 2. Oregano is another option that has a rich history and a prominent place in modern kitchens. It was historically considered a sign of happiness and joy, and could attract good luck when carried in a satchel. Inhaled, oregano vapors are great for opening the airways and aiding with sinus problems. Carvacrol and rosmarinic acid within oregano work to naturally aid in decongestion. Check out other oregano benefits here. 3. Peppermint contains mentholan ingredient common in modern over-the-counter breathing remedies. As PreventDisease reports, menthol is able to smooth the muscles of the respiratory tract and make breathing easier. 4. Plantain leaves are about as easy to find as dandelions, and grow freely in many yards. These are powerful little plants able to soothe a cough and can even be used for hay fever, asthma, lung infections, and chest congestion. 5. Eucalyptus isnt as common as the above choices, but can often be found in lozenges and natural sore throat and cough treatments. Green Tea for Flue Green tea contains an antioxidant called quercetin and an amino acide called L-theanine that help your body fight the flu. These compounds are also found in black tea and oolong tea, which are processed from green tea. Quercetin has an anti-viral effect that has been shown to fight viruses causing the common cold. In a study published in the "Journal of Medicinal Food" in 2013, quercetin was found to inhibit the replication of a common cold virus in its initial stage of infection. An 8-ounce cup of green tea contains 25 milligrams of caffeine, so be mindful not to exceed the daily amount of caffeine recommended by the American Medical Association, which is 200 to 300 milligrams.

Womens role in the American Revolution - Edenton Tea Party - Penelope Barker Tired of the British taxing the colonists Penelope wrote a public statement in which she endorsed a boycott of tea and other British products, such as cloth. In the early fall of 1774, Penelope Barker visited more fifty homes, and invited the ladies to a very special tea party to be held at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth King On October 25, 1774. At the party, she encouraged her neighbors and friends to ...stop drinking English tea and using English products until the King repealed the tea tax. Penelope said, Maybe it has only been men who have protested the king up to now. That only means we women have taken too long to let our voices be heard. We are signing our names to a document, not hiding ourselves behind costumes like the men in Boston did at their tea party. The British will know who we are. The Edenton Tea Party, as it came to be called, is believed to be the first political action by women in the American colonies ten months after the famous Boston Tea Party was organized by men. Penelope Barker and 50 other women became the signers of the Resolutions of the Edenton Tea Party. This document is the first purely political action by women in the American Colonies. They signed the resolution to show their support of North Carolinas Provisional Assembly. Penelope sent the proclamation to a London newspaper, confident that the womens stance would cause a stir in England. British journalists and cartoonists depicted the women in a negative light, as bad mothers and loose women, but the Patriots in America praised the women for their stance. Women in other colonies followed her lead and began boycotting British goods. Instead of English tea, the women brewed herbal teas from rosemary, lavender, thyme, chamomile, sage, mint, and lemon balm. American tea was also made from raspberry leaves and stalks of whorled loosestrife plant. Liberty Tea often included red rose petals, linden blossoms, elder, red clover, violets and goldenrod. Special flavor additions came from sassafras, willow tree bark, the twigs of sweet gum, fennel and dill seeds, and the fruits of the rosebush, called rosehips. Liberty tea remained popular even after the British tea taxes were no longer an issue.

Myth: Tea doesnt have an expiration date If youve got bags of tea sitting around for years, its time to toss them. The shelf life of tea is about 6 months to one year. Over time, the powerful flavonoids found in tea are reduced. To get the most out of your tea, store it in a cool, dark place.

Tea Myths That Need to Disappear Myth #1: Black Tea Has More Caffeine Than Green All tea has caffeine, usually less than coffee, though exactly how much varies from tea to tea. It is usually claimed that black teas have more caffeine than oolongs, which in turn have more caffeine than greens and whites, though none of them agree on amounts. ... Drinking up to 8 cups of tea per day is about equal to the general recommendation for consumption of daily caffeine, up to 400 mg. Pregnant women generally can tolerate up to 6 cups of tea All sorts of things influence a brewed teas caffeine concentration, including where and how its grown, the size of the finished leaves, and the exact processing style (roasting, aging, and fermentation can all diminish caffeine). A green tea may have as much caffeine as a black tea, and two black teas from the same region might have totally different caffeine levels. The very same tea may yield different amounts of caffeine depending on how its brewed. In a study in the Journal of Analytical Toxicology, researchers measured the caffeine content of 20 common tea products and found no correlation between tea style (green, black, etc.) and caffeine content. However, the longer any caffeinated tea brewed, the more caffeine made its way into the cup. Steep an English breakfast tea for one minute and you may get 14 milligrams of caffeine in your cup; steep the same amount for five minutes and that concentration can double. You can "decaffeinate" a tea by steeping it for 30 to 60 seconds, pouring out the brew, then steeping it again for a nearly caffeine-free cup. If you need to watch your caffeine consumption, stick to herbal tisanes, or try out roasted oolongs, aged teas, and "ripe" shou pu-erh styles, which many tea drinkers consider easier on the nerves. Or just steep your tea for shorter periods of time.

Darjeeling First Flush vs Darjeeling Second Flush. Both teas come from the same region (Northern India), they come of the same plant, but taste so different. Why then? Because one (First Flush) is collected in spring after rain season; and the other tea (second Flush) collected two month later - in summer. First flush Darjeeling has bright yellow liquor, gritty taste, is light and sweet as champagne. Second flush Darjeeling has bright brown-reddish colour and more body in it..., reach taste with tobacco notes. Comparing them side by side, enjoying both. See more

Truth about decaffeinated teas Caffeine One cup of black tea with its natural caffeine contains about 50 milligrams of the compound, one-fourth the limit recommended by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Consuming decaffeinated tea helps you avoid possible problems associated with caffeine consumption that stimulates your nervous system and affects brain function, potentially altering your behaviour. Although it might increase your degree of alertness, it can also make y...ou shaky and jittery, cause a headache or make it difficult for you to sleep. Other, potentially more serious side effects of caffeine include raising your blood pressure, increasing your heart rate or causing an abnormal heart rhythm. Commercial Tea Decaffeination Processes In the United States, tea must have 98% of its caffeine removed to be sold as decaf. Three decaffeination methods exist today all involve the use of solvents to extract the caffeine from the tea leaves. These solvents are as follows: Methylene Chloride: Also known as dichloromethane, trace amounts of this solvent remain in the tea leaves after decaffeination. Because large amounts of this chemical have been linked to cancer, many tea drinkers avoid tea decaffeinated this way. As of this writing, most teas are decaffeinated using methylene chloride. Ethyl Acetate: This chemical occurs naturally in tea. Although this decaffeination process is considered safe, much of the teas flavor is removed as a result. Carbon dioxide (CO): Considered to be the safest and least destructive to the teas original flavor, this decaffeination process involves pressurizing the CO so that it liquifies. The carbon dioxide is then used as a solvent to remove the caffeine. Sadly, many brand-name tea makers do not use the CO process. For example, Unilever, the manufacturer of the popular PG Tips and Lyons brands, uses dichloromethane (according to this source) to produce its decaffeinated teas. Tea manufacturers typically dont place caffeine extraction information especially if it involves ethyl acetate on the packaging. If you are uncertain or concerned, simply contact the company via email. MajesTea are your best bet for finding CO decaffeinated teas!!!

Time They say that "time heals all wounds." However, it also makes most teas turn bitter. The rule of thumb is 3-5 minutes for most black teas, depending on your preference for strength. Any longer, and theyll become overly astringent and puckery. Dark Oolong and White teas, on the other hand, are much more forgiving. These teas will taste best when steeped for 3-5 minutes but will still be drinkable if steeped a little longer. For light Oolong and green teas, a little TLC must be employed, steeping for only 2 minutes - 3 if youre looking for a strong cup.

Some like it hot...:) Making your perfect cup of tea: Temperature The ideal temperature depends on the tea. Use boiling water (212F) when preparing Black, dark Oolong and Herbal teas. These teas are tough, they can take the burn, and even require it in order to break down the leaf and release the flavor. However, its important to use cooler water when steeping more delicate teas, such as Green, green Oolong and White teas. Water that is too hot will cause a delicate tea to taste overly bitter or astringent. Water that is too cool will cause a tea to taste flavorless and weak. If you dont have a thermometer or a kettle that lets you gauge temperature, youll typically find that boiling water that is allowed to sit for 5 minutes will have dropped to roughly 180F.
