We are always looking for ways to improve efficiencies on the farm. A vacuum seeder has always been on the radar and this time of year is always a good time to get projects like this done...so we built one! We are still playing around and testing it out right now, but once we get the kinks worked out, this is going to help speed up seeding our soil blocks. We will post a demo of how it works tomorrow! #csa #eatlocal #vacuumseeder #soilblocks #diy #gardendyi
We really appreciate all of our winter egg customers and deliveries are still on! We can do a no contact trunk drop, or a hail Mary pass to your car Thanks for your continued support! #csa #eatlocal #farmfresheggs #eggsofinstagram
These tools sat dirty in a pile for an embarrassingly long time before getting around to cleaning them. Now, they’ve been cleaned up, any repairs done and handles treated with a coat of linseed oil. Ready for another season! #csa #eatlocal #gardentools
We’ve been trying to lure the laydees outside of their coop for the past couple weeks. The obvious combination of sunflower seeds, tree boughs and a flake of hay finally got them out! Success! #eatlocal #chickensofinstagram
Loving everything about this mix of Kale, Spinach and Beet Greens! It’s amazing simply raw with a light dressing. It’s delicious quickly braised as well. Or, just admire it on your plate! #csa #eatlocal #wintergreens #wintergrowing
Thanks for bringing the podcasts, bringing the laughs, working like a machine and another great season! We love having you on the team Andrea Willis!
The Winter greens in the greenhouse soaking up the sunshine today #wintergreens #eatlocal
Gotta get those walkways mulched! Weeding walkways is our least favourite and this should help eliminate some of that. One of the many other benefits of mulching is that it makes cover crops look even more lush! Look at that Fall Rye and Tillage Radish #csa #eatlocal #covercrops #woodchipmulch
The veggies appearing in this weeks Boxes! We did our first harvest from the new greenhouse and the salad greens are primo #csa #eatlocal #fallveggies
Another round of garlic planting done! The @neversinkfarmtools Zipper Tool is incredible and has shortened our time spent planting. One of our favourite tools! #csa #eatlocal #garlic
We’ve eaten a lot of salad turnips this year (we may have over done it on how much we grew ). Still hands down our favourite way to enjoy them is pan fried with tonnes of fresh garlic, some salt and pepper and then finished with a drizzle of Service Tree Farm honey. So good! Eating these alongside kohlrabi fritters and oven roasted Brussels sprouts tonight
Started planting some of our fall garlic - it’s nice to have an extra set of (really adorable) hands this season! #eatlocal #csa #garlic #littlehelper #startthemearly #dadandson
Heading into Thanksgiving weekend we’ve been reflecting on how thankful we are to be able to do what we love, with people we love, and share it with awesome people in our wonderful community Andrea Willis
Growing soils our favourite. Tillage radish cover crop is filling in to protect these beds over Winter and add some organic matter in the Spring. #csa #eatlocal #covercrop #daikonradish #tillageradish
A few surprise guests made an appearance recently! Wasn’t expecting to see these grey oyster mushrooms until Spring #csa #eatlocal #oystermushrooms
Hands down, THE best tomato season we’ve ever had!
Been awhile since we’ve posted a Box shot. Week 15!
Early morning rounds. Gotta keep those tomatoes pumping! The flame weeder works excellent for frost prevention. Check back later for more garden hacks #csa #eatlocal #flameweeder #hoophouse #tomatoes #frost
It might not be pretty and maybe it doesn’t taste that good either, but we grew a peanut butter and jam sandwich. Raw peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwiched between two slices of buckwheat sourdough. #csa #eatlocal #pbandj #2020goals
Bok choy is pretty happy right now #csa #eatlocal #bokchoy
Guess it was windy last night! The plastic on one of our hoop houses was blown off! We can be guilty of always trying to post the perfect veggie shot. In reality, 90% of farming is divided between building/repairing something, research, and trying to find your lost gloves. #csa #eatlocal #farmlife
We’re pretty pumped to see catkins (male flowers) on our hazelnut shrubs this Fall. They’ll release their pollen next Spring to pollinate any female flowers. Not expecting a bumper crop but looking forward to tasting some homegrown hazelnuts #nuts #csa #eatlocal #hazelnuts
Better late than never! Sunflowers are starting to open! Such an impressive plant #csa #eatlocal #sunflower #flowerpower
