For children living with CF, so much of the joy of childhood is taken away from them it is exhausting, both emotionally and physically. Genevieve is very artistic, and her talent amazes everyone who sees her sketches. She wished for a room makeover and a space to call her own that is bright and expresses her creativity and colourful personality. As a child who has to spend 2-3 hours a day in a chair completing treatment, she was over the moon to have a fun and comfortable place to do this. She really wants to be like the rest of her peers. Now she can just hang out in her room like other girls her age, instead of sitting in the living room doing her treatments. May is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month. Diagnosed with a severe immune deficiency when he was only 7 months old, Kurtis has had to spend a lot of time away from home and in hospital, even needing a bone-marrow transplant due to his condition. Kobe, 18, lives with cystic fibrosis and liver failure, but that doesn’t stop him from enjoying life to the fullest. Kobe is a tech savvy teen who loves everything electronics, so it was no surprise that his one true wish was for an electronics package! Surrounded by his family and siblings, his wish recently came true! I thought this would happen during Christmas, not now! Kobe excitedly said as he took in the joy of his special wish day. Ever since wish child Sharon was a young girl, she was an avid writer of short stories about princesses and fairy tales. At 14 years old, Sharon was diagnosed with cancer. She went through treatment, with her family by her side, and beat it. Now 18, Sharon recently had her wish granted of becoming a published author with her book "The Show Must Go WrONg", filled with various poems she has written. Her surgery last summer was a success and she’s back to her normal activities. Bethany wished for her own trailer to go camping with her family in her very own mini house. This May, Bethany was surprised with her very own trailer, surrounded by her very close friends and family and with the help of Alexandria Camp...ing Centre. She was absolutely surprised and couldn’t hold back tears of joy. Bethany has already planned her new camping adventures! Dereck is a smart and bright 13-year old who excels in math and enjoys playing chess. He recently finished his treatment after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. His wish to go to Hawaii was recently granted! Dereck and his family flew to Honolulu to enjoy the coral reefs, Pearl Harbor, surfing and so much more! Sitting on the balcony watching the sunrise over the spectacular views brought everyone so much peace and joy that can often be forgotten in times of medicine and treatments. Arden loves Japanese comic books a and is also a big foodie! When he was diagnosed with a brain tumour, Arden’s taste buds were affected by his treatments. After completing treatment, his sense of taste slowly returned. That’s when he began doing research into Japanese food, and eventually led him to wish go and eat at Michelin star rated restaurant in Tokyo, Japan. The highlight of the trip was the nine-course tasting menu at NARISAWA. As an added bonus, Arden and his mom met the chef and owner, Yoshihiro Narisawa, who gave them a special, behind-the-scenes tour of his kitchen.
