Born 12 weeks early, Fionn has faced medical challenges, including a life-threatening heart condition. He is the definition of courage. A serious hockey fan, Fionn, knew there was only one wish that would do - to become a member of his favourite NHL hockey team, the @CalgaryFlames. At a packed news conference on Fionn’s wish day, Flames General Manager, @BradTreliving, announced the signing of the nine-year-old defenceman to a one-day contract with the team. After signing th...e contract and answering media questions, Fionn and his brothers later joined the Flames on the ice for an afternoon skate where he showed off his impressive puck-handling skills in his sledge. The day was indeed a wish-come-true. It was a memorable wish day not only for Fionn and his family, but for the Flames players as well. Today is #GoforaRideDay, and we look back at wish kid Denver’s wish. He was 15 when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. The news was crushing for him and his family, but there was an amazing silver lining in the form of a wish! Diagnosed with a severe immune deficiency when he was only 7 months old, Kurtis has had to spend a lot of time away from home and in hospital, even needing a bone-marrow transplant due to his condition. Kurtis is into LEGO, loves to read children’s books (Robert Munsch especially) and spends A LOT of time outdoors. Whether he’s riding a bike,swimming in a pool or hitting the playground, he’s happy when he’s outside, which is why he wished to have his own playground! Ever since wish child Sharon was a young girl, she was an avid writer of short stories about princesses and fairy tales. At 14 years old, Sharon was diagnosed with cancer. She went through treatment, with her family by her side, and beat it. Now 18, Sharon recently had her wish granted of becoming a published author with her book "The Show Must Go WrONg", filled with various poems she has written.
