Make Cents of Change Society 24.11.2020

We have worked very hard and invested a great deal of money and time over the past two years dedicating ourselves to supporting those that so many have long forgotten. A few years ago a retired policeman from New York who helped to start the Housing First initiative that cities all across North America have adopted spoke in Halifax and stated "Homelessness is an issue that we truly can change, just not enough people care." That sadly has come to be the reality we have been fa...cing. Our recent cancellation of our Gala Charity Fundraiser which had to be cancelled will actually cost our organization almost $20,000 to not put it on. While some have been so gracious to donate their table and ticket purchases, others have been immensely harsh, even threatening and extremely vulgar especially from the entertainment booked. It's sad that some cant see that the people who are truly losing here are the clients we help. None of us have ever been in this for money and every dime that came in to the Society has gone to support our clients and that has always been transparent. We have been staffed completely by volunteers and 100% self funded. To aggressively go after an organization who's only goal is to help those in need, for either $3500 for musicians that aren't financially burdened or a venue that makes millions and still wants $12000 puts our organization in a shortfall we won't get out of. We certainly don't point blame at anyone for things that have happened, it was unforeseen, just sadly some in society just dont care and aren't sympathetic to anything. We apologize to anyone who is affected by this event being cancelled. Especially to those we serve and those we had hoped to hire on full time to assist us with our mission. Our only intent ever was to help. Thank you all for your understanding. Make Cents of Change

Recently Make Cents of Change Society had to cancel an event we were all looking forward to see happen. Sadly this event had to be cancelled due to a number of factors but none more important than health. We have been operating a self funded non-profit to help support those who are homeless to find a more stable and healthy lifestyle. This has been completely manned by volunteers with not one paid employee. All funds raised over the past two years have gone directly in to sup...porting those we help. The cost of operating a non-profit is onerous and a number of the financial supports we expected either did not transpire or have been delayed. As a result, we now find that we have to halt operations for the time being while we reevaluate the paths we take in the future and the mechanisms for support. If anyone that had purchased a ticket for the event has not been contacted as of yet please feel free to email us at [email protected] We would also like to thank all those that have supported our cause as well as those who have replied and donated their refund. You truly are amazing people. Thank you all again for your understanding and your support. Sincerely Make Cents of Change Society

MCOC is saddened to announce that we are cancelling/postponing the Gala Dinner & Concert this week due to sudden unexpected circumstances. We are contacting all those who purchased tables/tickets. We hope to reschedule at a later date or offer refunds to those who wish. Thank you for you cooperation and your willingness to support MCOC in the past and hopefully the future."

Buy a car and $150 helps the homeless. We cannot do what we do without the support of our corporate sponsors. Aerobics First and Driving Time Auto make it possible for the #fititforward program to exist, along with New Balance Canada, Merrell, Wolverine Worldwide and One For Freight. You all rock. #imakecents #fititforward #aerobicsfirst #solefulcaring #drivingtime #imakechange #helpthehomeless #respect #dignity #hope #sackville #dartmouth #halifax #dotherightthing @ Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia
