To all those concerned. Irene DeKievit is a friend who has persevered in a decades long battle with the Catholic Church and diocese. Make Children Better Now was proud to host two keynote speakers at our Annual General Meeting 3 years ago who were victims along with Irene and many others of sexual abuse as young girls by A priest named Sylvester. They were all young children at the time of the sexual assault‘s. Justice for Irene ~ Last year on September 15th, the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows Bishop Fabbro directed a mass to be held and asked for prayers for victims of clergy sexual abuse. Despite the prayers, the London diocese, under the bishop’s leadership, continues to use the wealth and stealth of the church to fight victims in court. The London diocese has decided that it will go all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada rather than settle its case with Irene Deschenes. Those who support Irene cannot let the hypocrisy go unchallenged. To show solidarity, a single supporter will stand vigil in front of St. Peter’s Basilica, in London, the entire day on the Feast Day of Our Lady of Sorrows, September 15th. The solitary figure represents the loneliness of Irene’s twenty-eight year fight for justice in the shade of the powerful institution that was once her church. It also gives testimony to the power of one to stand up and speak out for social change, truth and justice.
