This festival was held back in June as a bridge building event. Many new relationships have been build and connections made for the Right Relations team of Wild Rose United Church. As the designer and organizer of this event it was my pleasure to work with the Elders, artists and volunteers who made this event possible. Since the festival this page has shared artists and their events in hope to be supportive of Indigenous arts in Calgary. ... This page will now become inactive as the year draws to a close. The future of this arts festival is undecided however I will not personally be involved with hosting the event again within a United Church. I will continue to support artists on my personal page and personal arts groups and I urge all those who value Indigenous artists as important community leaders, teachers and storytellers to follow the personal or professional pages of the artists they admire. The vision for this event was originally inspired by the words of a leader of the Metis Nation, Louis Riel who said My people will sleep for a 100 years, and when they awake it will be the artists who call their spirits back to them. As a woman who is of mixed-Metis heritage this prophecy held truth of me personally - and for that I am grateful Maarsi and Thank you Art is the voice of the Creator spoken through us in tones and colours we can understand- may that voice continue to speak through you ~creativity yours Heather Morigeau

Important article on re-selling indigenous artwork. Many times new artists price their work low to turn a profit and build their reputation. If that artwork increases in value as they become acclaimed it’s fair to offer them (or their family) a portion of the resale of their artwork. https://www.cbc.ca//n/enchanted-owl-sold-auction-1.4938259
