A message from Jason, owner of Malibu South: As owner of Malibu South, a local family restaurant and on behalf of my staff, my management, my family and myself, I would like to extend our deep appreciation and thanks that we all feel towards our first responders. The doctors, nurses, health care workers and other essential workers have inspired us as proud Canadians. We are in awe as we watch first responders risk their health to care for others. We are humbled as a community... when we come to realize that cashiers, warehouse staff and delivery drivers are now essential as we re-prioritize our lives. I would suggest we should also include all the workers within the hospitality industry. Each day our staff arrives and are truly driven to keep our customers safe. They each get their temperature taken and don their PPE before they start the shift which now involves frequent, thorough sanitizing and cleaning. Safe distancing limits the number of tables and diners they can serve through the day and impacts their ability to earn tips. They follow all guidelines as they do not want to put customers as risk or do they want be closed down again. Our staff are strong and resilient. They help to provide a safe, comfortable place to meet friends and family to share a meal. For many of our customers, the return to normal is needed to ease stress and for mental wellbeing. For that reason, our staff is extra careful with the health of our guests. They take a risk each day to serve you. Our staff are heroes, too. Not to diminish the work done by health care professionals, I simply mean to thank all hospitality staff and to ask you to do the same. They are my staff, my front line workers, my heroes and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
