When you can walk away from a home knowing that you’ve done nothing but help people, it’s the best feeling. It’s why I love what I do! This is a picture taken ...a few hours ago using my FLIR thermal imaging camera. Cold spots will appear as blue/purple whereas warm areas will be orange. You can see the heat signature left by the chandelier. The blue lines indicate the ceiling joists. This can be seen more clearly without the heat from the light however for the sake of this post it shows a nice contrast. The ceiling joists here appear blue as there was barely enough insulation to cover the top of the 2x6 joists and wood has a very low R-Value(thermal resistance). With Ontario building code being at R60 (22 1/4 of insulation) this home was extremely inefficient with only 6-7 of insulation. There was also very little air intake and the incorrect exhaust hoses from bathroom vents. All of these issues will be rectified while we get insulation levels up to code. Homeowners are usually very surprised to see the results of this camera and although this may seem like a drastic situation, this is MUCH more common than one would think.
