We had a pleasure of hosting Stewart - a large lovely poodle who met New Year with us. He is a gentle giant who gets along with everyone. I hope he will visit again !

We will be saying goodbye today to lovely, well behaved girls who spent a week with us. They blended right in with our family and we will miss them when they return to their home. Until next time Sadie and Shadow !

Morning in the Cottage in the City

Dogs don't have to like each other - just like people. I've always been reluctant to take my guys to off leash parks because you never know how they'd interact ...with each other. We had one potential guest yesterday - an 8 yo beagle mix. A girl. I thought that if we get a visiting girl, Harry (M) will be okay and Gabby (F) will just get along with her happy go lucky character. Wrong. Meeting & Greeting went okay so we let them loose then Ash attacked Gabby. All are neutered. Harry watched stunned. Gabby reciprocated. Of course they were instantly separated. This was the 1st time in Gabby's 8 years that she engaged in in a fight. Of course we had to decline Ash's hosting. Gabby was quite upset afterwards and she even briefly growled at Mylo who came today - minutes later they were both begging for a snack so not a big deal. Just a lesson not to presume that we will all get along :) And that's why we have to screen Meeting & Greeting followed by off leash interaction. See more

I had to refuse one lovely border collie girl Sky today. She lunged at my Gabby. I am proud of my dogs and their behaviour. After Sky tried to bit Gabby both of my dogs stepped back calmly. No teeth, no growling. They just sat back and watched. It's a pity that Sky couldn't stay with us as her parents were in emergency situation but we are a family oriented dog boarding and we need to establish at least tolerance before we accept new temporary family members. I think that Skye was upset and nervous - given more time we would probably all get along.

We care about dogs who come for a day or overnight. We don't cage them. They have a run of the house and huge backyard. We've just limited a number of our boarders to 2 from 3. This is for comfort of all dogs - less tension, more room to make friends and blend into a pack and more opportunities to get hugs, cuddles and kisses from humans.. All guests are supervised at all times. This is COTTAGE IN THE CITY after all :) 24 hours boarding is $45 - less for two dogs from the sam...e home. We offer unlimited love for dogs and comforting hugs when your dog misses you. When you drop off your dog at out home he or she becomes a temporary part of the family. It is not a simple task. We have to earn your dog's trust. We have to introduce him or her to a foreign environment. We have to make our resident dogs share space without dispute. We have to provide separate eating space for each because of known territorial issues. We have to desensitize our resident dogs to petting strangers at home. It's not just boarding. We are hosting 2 doggie girls Dec 7 to Dec 25 4PM. We decided to host up to 2 guests at the time in order to avoid tension and allow more room to make friends with our resident dogs. Our home is open for booking after Dec 25th. All well behaved, neutered, house broken and vaccinated guests are welcome :) Please remember - we do require meet and greet prior to hosting - this is for the sake of your and our dogs to make their experience relaxed and safe.
