Why Montessori? An Overview Welcome to our Montessori classroom! The children move about in their prepared environment working individually or collaborating in small groups. They share, discuss and investigate ideas with other children and teachers. There are no desk to limit their mobility and no artificial time constraints. Students learn at their own pace without grade level barriers to restrict their progress. They initiate their own learning, pursue their person...al goals, and participate using a variety of self-selected learning materials. The organization of our classroom is based upon our beliefs about the nature of learning. Optimal learning occurs in nurturing environments that foster self esteem, risk-taking, and decision making Instruction and presentations accommodate individual differences in learning rates and styles Learning is holistic and includes the social, emotional, and intellectual development of the child Students construct their own knowledge. It cannot be transmitted to them. Children learn best when they interact with people and the environment Advantages The Montessori program is based on a developmental curriculum in which children are both expected and encouraged to learn at their own pace and level. The classroom and curriculum are structured to eliminate failure and promote successful learning. Educational research from the past decade supports a developmentally appropriate curriculum that reflects the way each child develops and learns.

We are located in The Church of Nativity, located at 10 Sewells Road in Scarborough. (The nearest main intersection is Sheppard and Neilson.) Committed to our students and parents of this community, we are proud to be a culturally diverse small school. Established in 2004 in a newly built church, the school received an award as one of the top Four Montessori Schools in 2007. (Scarborough Mirror). Founded by Mrs. S. Nirmal for the needs of the community, the school has an exce...llent reputation for the standard of education and discipline it offers. Our aim is to provide individual attention for each student and to ensure a high standard of academic excellence. Malvern Montessori School respects and follows Dr. Maria Montessoris educational philosophy to create a new science of teaching based on natural development, which would enable each childs full potential to be realized.
