Mamquam River Campground 10.11.2020

The Mamquam River Access Society (MRAS) is the non-profit that operates the Mamquam River Campground. We've been evolving for two years, always envisioning we'd get water at some point. That opportunity is now. We need District water service and a fire hydrant nearby rather than a well that Van Coastal Health doesn't want. Anthem Properties is the development company that is rezoning the old RV Campground nearby and their Public Hearing is this Tuesday at 6 pm at Council Chambers. Your attendance fortifies MRAS request for Anthem's Community Amenities Contribution to be directed at providing the campground with safe drinking water and proper fire safety, rather than a roundabout on Loggers Lane serving double-haul dumptrucks. The current interesection is better than a roundabout. Please support us

Our non-profit campground has officially opened our Dirtbag Zone camping area for the summer which offers AFFORDABLE CAMPING AT $5 PER VEHICLE or TENT PER NIGHT. We call it the DZ! The costs cover the rent of an outhouse and garbage disposal. There is room for 8 vehicles and an area for tenting with picnic tables and a firepit! Located conveniently along the side of Centennial Way across from the Alpine Paving yard 100m east of our campground on 2023 Centennial Way. It's ver...y close to the Mamquam River, a 2 minute drive from the Brennan Park Recreation centre, 5 minutes away from the Smoke Bluffs and 10 minutes from the Chief. This area will be First Come First Serve (FCFS), so make sure you come by and get your spot. 14 Day Maximum Stay. This unique area does not permit trailers or vehicles that are not roadworthy and all vehicles must all be insured. No long RV's or buses allowed due to size restrictions. Management reserves the right to refuse access to this area at any time at their discretion and all users must adhere to the Code of Conduct posted at the site. Our DZ Coordinator will be living onsite and will be very happy to assist as required. We wish you a sunny week with dry Crags and adventures in the outdoors! Hopefully see you soon!

The Mamquam River Access Society (MRAS) is back on track to have the Mamquam River Campground open for May, 2018. MRAS has just received $11,000 from the District of Squamish 2018 Community Enhancement Grant towards completing our outhouses. So far, we’ve raised over $90,000 in cash and another $90,000 In-Kind. The industrial site has been remediated and the campground built. We’ve saved 7 acres out from this crazy development boom occurring all around us!... Campground improvements continue slowly but we’ve basically run out of money. We’re hoping someone comes out from the woodwork to join the MRAS Board or help with administration. How about marketing and running a fundraising event? We’re just about ready to hire a Campground Manager for $14,000 over 5 months. Not bad for a part-time gig eh. If interested, send resume to [email protected] Our list of needs start with another $10,000 to fix the other two outhouses. We need $15,000 to build three dish-washing facilities. These costs are volunteer supported. We need $25,000 to build one picnic shelter. In the long term we will want two or three. MRAS would also like to someday own a nice 5th Wheel or Trailer for a Caretaker/Manager residence. If one donates it, we can write a tax receipt for its value!! The vision continues. Please support us. MRAS is a federally registered charity. Donations can be made through our website. MRAS is all volunteer.

The Mamquam River Campground has been shut down due to Vancouver Coastal Health's suggestion we're going to pollute the environment. In our busy 4 months voluntarily building the campground we (I) forgot to get VCH permits. So we've not met the standards for "Holding Tanks" yet our sealed-vault outhouses are bombproof and NOT an environmental issue as they will be emptied by a Waste Management Contractor. Also, they are sealed with 14" of concrete. This is a hurdle but not insurmountable. We could put some political pressure on but I hope common sense allows us to prove our vaults are sealed and we can reopen the campground. You are more likely to effect the environment driving your car to work. Your average septic system drain field releases more fecal bacteria into the environment than our sealed outhouses will.
