This is something we never think about, but it is important that we do. It only takes a minute to check that exhaust pipe.

Burn Awareness Week as sponsored by the American Burn Association and endorsed by Fire Departments is scheduled for February 7-13, 2021. This year's theme is "Electrical Safety from Amps to Zap (A to Z). Plug major appliances like space heaters or air conditioners directly into wall outlets. Don't use extension cords or power strips with them. ... Charge laptops and cell phones on hard surfaces. Don't charge them on soft surfaces like beds or upholstered furniture. Unplug any device powered by lithium batteries (like a hoverboard) once they are charged up. Don't overcharge or leave them charging unattended overnight. Turn heating pads, electrical blankets and space heaters off before sleeping. Learn to react to a fire in a microwave oven: keep the door closed and unplug it if safe to do so. As a general rule, do not put metal in the microwave (check your owners manual for specific packaging that might be allowed, but don't gamble if you are not sure. Keep battery terminals (positive and negative ends) from coming in contact with each other or with other metals. Tape the ends if you are storing them loosely in a drawer. Make sure that any disc type lithium batteries are not accessible to children. If swallowed, they will set off a chemical reaction and can cause a serious burn to tissues in the esophagus or any part of the digestive system.
