Ice buildup on our power lines adds weight and causes our poles to be more susceptible to strong winds. Staff rolled ice off the lines near Grandview, one of the hardest hit areas from the ice storm that hit western Manitoba earlier this week

One year ago this weekend, our province was pummelled by the worst early winter storm in our utility’s history. Thanksgiving weekend turned out quite different than planned for many Manitobans, and it will once again be different for many due to the pandemic. On this anniversary, we remain thankful for our heroic employees, understanding customers, supportive communities and partner utilities.

In the past 3 years (201719), farm machinery has come in contact with our equipment 452 times, an average of 151 contacts per year. Cultivators and air seeders account for 45% of these contacts. Farm equipment contacts are preventable. Know the height of your equipment and allow adequate clearance so you can stay safe and keep the power flowing. If your equipment or load exceeds 4.8 metres, get an agricultural move permit. Without a permit, any damage is your responsibility.... https://www.hydro.mb.ca/safety/on_the_farm/ See more

Our new bucket truck extends to nearly 200 ft. and allows easier access to our tallest overhead power lines. Its height means it shows up on the radar of the Winnipeg Airport when fully extended! The Bronto Skylift is designed to support energized line work up to 500-kV, and ensures we can complete the work safer and faster as our workers don’t have to climb the tower. ... One of the biggest challenges was making sure it was street legal. We took out a seat, swapped out steel wheels for aluminum and reduced the gas tank size to make sure it met the road weight limit. It comes in at 82,600 lbs Staff begin training on the new device next month.
To anyone planning to do some sightseeing or hiking this fall in and around the Seven Sisters Generating Station in our neighbouring Whitemouth River Valley / R...M of Whitemouth, please note that the Trans Canada Trail and the Seven Sisters spillway deck will be closed from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1 and then again from Oct. 20 to Nov. 6 for Manitoba Hydro work. During those periods, you may notice construction equipment in the area and divers in the water around the dam.
ATTENTION Pukatagwagan - We require an outage to the entire community Sunday Sept. 27 from 9 am. to 3 p.m. to safely replace electrical equipment and remove dangerous trees near power lines to improve reliability and outage restoration times.
