I will not be in the fibre trail this weekend, but will have some new things to show you shortly... look for fibre and yarns! Stay safe out there!
How cosy are these stunning ‘Mirknen Dags and Legwarmers’, the fourth design in the Shetland Wool Week Annual 2020, by @shetlandhandspun, Elizabeth Johnston. El...izabeth explains the inspiration behind her design: Dags are fingerless gloves once worn by men processing fish on the beaches. They were knitted with a short rib at top and bottom and half a thumb. As I don’t like to knit rib or fingers, I love this style of glove. ‘Mirknen’ is a Shetland word for sunset and literally means the ‘darkening’. In summer we call sunsets the ‘simmer dim’ or the ‘hmin’ and in winter it is the ‘half light’. The light changes slowly and as it darkens becomes the ‘mirknen’. These Mirknen Dags and Legwarmers are perfect for keeping warm when the winter sun sets. There are many options in this pattern, for a rib or rolled hem, and a choice of light or dark background colours, as well as all-over Fair Isle patterns, or interspersed with stripes if you prefer. The two patterns include dags in short, medium and long; and leg warmers. A fun but practical knit! The dags and legwarmers are suggested in a number of colourways using yarn from Jamieson & Smith Shetland Wool Brokers Jamiesons of Shetland and Elizabeth’s own hand dyed, handspun yarn Shetland Handspun For details on how to pre-order the Annual visit https://shop.shetlandwoolweek.com//shetland-wool-week-annu Photo by @whatsusanseesphotography
Darned Covid!!! I have been doing a lot of mask making in the last little bit, and admit that my yarn work has been mostly mental. All the hand washing has left my hands dry and yarn and fibre work was pushed back a little. My hands finally seem to have gotten used to all the washing and are no longer sandpaper. Best be getting those thoughts onto fibre!!! I will still be making masks on demand still!
A new found friend ... hope you managed to get the pattern - if you missed it’s ‘freeness’ then it’s still only 1.99 for the remainder of this weekend here (please note Ravelry so sometimes add tax): https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/raccoon-25

A fun thing to think about... https://www.iflscience.com//how-multicolored-mutant-cotto/
I have been sent a few messages asking if Manjusha Fibre Arts will be participating in the fibre festival events this year. Although I miss seeing everyone and want some of my lovely stuff in your hands, I just cannot. With numbers in the province rising, I am a little risk averse. Some of you are aware that I have MS, and have been in remission a long time - since COVID is worse for immune compromised people, I just cannot risk it. Fibre cannot be sanitized between holder...s and that makes me a bit nervous. And we all know fibre is meant for touching. I have thought about a little video showing me dyeing yarn and a bit about my space. Also - there is a new web platform with some new things coming. I’ve just been a bit pokey in getting it done. I will miss seeing everyone this year - be safe and healthy, and we will see each other soon enough! See more
Just needed a couple masks for me... not much of this fabric, but it was perfect for my COVID-19 thoughts.
An important fibre activity that Manjusha Fibre Arts is working on these days. Masks are going to be part of our world for a while. They might as well be pretty, and reusable.
During covid times, I have been sewing a lot... here’s another wip that I am working on finishing...
I was supposed to do my Daisy fabric quilt next, but I thought this might go in the room that I want to paint- and encourage me to get the painting done... It still needs the borders, the back and to be quilted, but the colours are stunning! Fabric is mostly Alison Glass Stitched from Keystone Modern Creative in Winnipeg! Leslie Gislason Pattern from Highway 10 Designs - Home Quarter, inspired by flights over the farm fields of the prairies. Support local artist and shop owners!
When the work at home mandate results in the home office being constructed in the fibre room... should be less crazy if I can get another space painted ASAP!
