Juvenile bald eagle challenging an adult bald eagle for food. Eagles are opportunistic predators. Meaning that if they see an opportunity to eat they will stea...l from other animals primarily from other eagles or smaller birds or scavenge on carrion. Eagles will, of course, hunt live prey too. But they will try to take advantage of an easy meal wherever they can. Fish is the main food source of bald eagles, but they will eat a variety of birds and other animals, like squirrels, prairie dogs, raccoons and rabbits. They kill their prey by using their talons and while their stomachs are pretty small (about the size of a walnut) they can eat up to of their body weight. This spectacular photo was captured by Andrew Boycott (@CultureNatureWildlife) the next photographer in our series. Here’s a little bit about Andrew: My wildlife obsession started when I was 9, when I went with my family to Kenya and Tanzania. That trip and all of the incredible animals I saw really shaped who I am, and what I am passionate about in the present. Now at 24, I am a vegetarian and spend all of my free time either exploring taking photos of our beautiful local wildlife, or traveling looking to experience the variety of ecosystems we still have across our incredible planet. I think now more than ever, with so much changing in our climate and so many species being threatened, it's important to show people the beautiful wildlife we need to fight to protect. #wildlife #eagles #birdsofig #baldeagles #wildlifephotographer #canadianwildlife #bcwildlife #birds #birdsofinstagram See more

"One of the major things we can do is to set aside more land and manage the land in a way that bird species can do well," Mooers said.'

The beaver is the largest rodent in North America, and is the second largest in the world! While they might be famous for their teeth, it's interesting to know ...that their large front teeth (incisors) never stop growing, which is why beavers are constantly gnawing on wood, to prevent their teeth from growing too long. Are you a wildlife photographer? Here are some bee-utiful facts about bees: 1. On their legs, honey bees have tiny hairs to help them collect pollen. 2. They have to gather nectar from two mil...lion flowers to make a single pound of honey! In fact, Bees visit 50 to 100 flowers during a collection trip and can fly up to ten kms and as fast as 25 km/hr. 3. The male honey bees (drones) are larger than worker bees and have no stinger. Could they BEE anymore interesting?! We can't wait until spring! #bees #insects #beesofig #nature #naturefacts #wildlife #wildlifelover #naturelover #beesfacts

Fun #winterhibernation fact: Marmots hibernate for up to six months. When they are awake, they need to mate, feed and prepare for the next hibernation -- which ...obviously takes a lot of energy. But during hibernation they take only 2-3 breaths a minute and their heartbeat slows down from their normal 120 beats to 3-4 beats a minute! Talk about slowing it down. #wildlife #marmot #hibernation #nature #animals #naturelover #wildlifelover #canadawildlife #winter #winteranimals
