Are you staying at home because of Covid 19? Do you miss going to your favorite provincial park because they have all been closed? I've created a promo code so you can watch Sombrio for free. This film documents the end of an era in BC as a community of surfers and squatters are evicted from what is now the heart of Juan de Fuca Provincial Park - Sombrio Beach. This link has the promo code embedded in it. https://vimeo.com/r/2BR7/ZGQwcmouME... Promo Code I'm Staying Home
The Five Acre Farm has been saved! The city has agreed to purchase the farm and preserve it as park land. All of the funds raised at the Five Acres screening (some $37,000) is being held in trust and will be used for Nanaimo Foodshare urban farm projects at Five Acres after a public consultation has been completed. A huge thank you to everyone who got involved, donated time, energy and funding to help make this happen!
Five Acres is a documentary film that explores the history and significance of a small urban farm in a rapidly developing area of Nanaimo. Five Acres Farm Harewood has a long history of producing local food. It's one of the last intact farms in BC's first planned agricultural community. More recently, Nanaimo Foodshare Society has transformed it an inclusive learning space, where farming knowledge spreads like seeds. Community grows here, but can it continue to flourish? What an amazing evening and what a beautiful community we have! We had a full house at the Port Theatre for the Five Acres Premiere and Foodshare fundraiser. And we raised over $37,000 between ticket sales and the pledge auction! Nanaimo has so much love!
Here are a few photos form Seedy Sunday in Nanaimo today.
