Today we spent some time downtown at the boardwalk to observe things and run and play and have discussions about what we saw. We also took the ferry and ate fresh fish and chips right by the water

I swear lose parts is the way to go! Don't misunderstand me we have toys too but the kids love the lose parts because they can be whatever you want them to be today this 3 year old was building a trap and testing out his own strength

Lose parts in our yard for the children are amazing. They inspire them to build, work as a team, practice balance and movement, take risks and try their own strength....i would never change it for anything

Wonderful PD day on Friday! We dont just hang around the city we take off! This time we went to oaklawn farm zoo with 7 kids in two cars THANK you Mathew Robar for the help

When the strawberries in nova scotia are ready its a must to go and pick them with the children. Its not just a super interesting event for them its also a super yummy one one strawberry in the basket and one in the mouth

The sun comes out and we started some new editions to our great outdoor space

It's getting nice out and we are off to start more adventures again. This week we visited the waterfront twice and we went to the farmers market to buy fresh meat for snacks.

When it is freezing outside and we can't get out as much as we would love to we find alternative ways to move and get some energy out.....that might be the climbing wall or an obstacle course.....but today it's the bouncy castle

At my Dayhome movement is very important. Get your blood pressure up and have fun by rolling, running, sliding and what ever other movement you can come up with. This is the foundation to all other skills. When they have enough time to move they will have some time to sit and explore as well. During movement activities they Learn so much more. We love the outdoors

In the last few month the children worked a lot outside with wooden boards and milk crates and tires. They started with bridges and teeter tooters. Then they started to stand the wooden pieces up and finally it turned into piling wood and then into a real building!

We took the kids to Noggins a few weeks ago for a PD day! We wanted to pick pumpkins and ended up picking apples again

The children really wanted to play with leaves but we have none in the yard. So we drove through the neighbourhood and picked up bags with leaves which people put out after cleaning their yard. We took them home and dumped them in the yard for the children the bags turned into sea shells for hermit crabs

We love singing and dancing and making music! We have instruments for the children but I love it the most when they use lost and found materials and explore the sounds!

Love it when the food turns into a counting game and then it's being eaten ! What a creative way to make a boring snack time interesting

It's summer time and we are fully enjoying the wonderful weather at lakes, splashpark, the pool and the beach! Water water water and lots of free play time

Spontaneous adventure at long lake park! The children have space for running and climbing and this time we discovered a trail which led us to a beautiful spot at the water

Big outing today to the valley to Oaklawn farm zoo! What a great day

Even on the weekend my kids use our lost and found materials to play!

Who says that a smoothie cant become a science project?

We went to the iseville playground but my children arent interested in the climbers they went to play in the bushes and trees. So much more to discover in there and so much more adventure!

The children took the skateboards to the side o our house on the dead end trail. They were helping each other, they made sure everybody would get a ride even though we only have two boards and there were 5 kids. They figured out a way how nobody had to sit and wait. Problem solving and creative thinking are so important and usually adults have suggestions way too fast. This here is the result of me not telling them what to do!

PD day for the school kids and we all went for our first day at the Beach! What fun that was! So much movement and imaginative play, building and and and! Outings are amazing :)

Outings are an important part of our day! So much to learn and see out there in the world. You have to observe and listen, ask questions and find answers. The world is full of things to wonder about! Today we took the Hali train and looked at downtown Halifax. Then we walked over the big water bridge and we wondered what we could see if we would look through the cracks! By the museum they tried out who was the strongest in town by lifting or .iving the chains from the anker. What an adventurous morning

We got a truck load full of mulch today and we worked with the kids on the yard to make it better for them. They did help for a long time then they went to play aside me working i love the mixed age groups

Yard renovations are on the go! We are outing lots of hard work and sweat into this!

Good rain gear is a must at Mansures Dayhome! When it rains we don not hide inside we go out and experience the rain and the puddles and the mud. THIS is what we do when it rains

Today the yard renovations started.....the kids helped us or lets say they were digging with their own agenda to find worms :)

It was a PD day so we went on a big outing to Ross farm. The children enjoyed the animals and they learned some new things about the old times. They were impressed by the old school house. After all the educational things they needed some time to run and roll and let their energy out so their brains could work with what they just heard and saw. It was a great outing for everybody

This weekend is Earth day so i went out with my group and we picked up the garbage which we found around our dayhome. I am so proud of them how hard they worked. They were so stunned about the things they were finding and they were helping each other and taking turns. They even made up a song as they were picking up garbage about " litter bugs ". This was a very good teaching activity and they did most the teaching with each other.

We love recycled materials. They are wonderful to hide in and have a pretend house or boat or rocket or whatever your mind is creating. These materials are great for sorting and pouring things, for staking and lining up. They are fantastic to make music and sing or build and climb on them to get some exercise done. Commercial toys usually don't have this many options to be used as. WE LOVE RECYCLED MATERIALS

Sometimes the art studio turns into a small lab where the children mix ingredients and make a magic drink which turns the children into frogs. There was lots of measuring happening and turn taking. They had to talk about their ideas and make compromises with the other children. At one point all 7 children did team work.
