October brings the winds of change Although I am going to miss Dr Kim Bretz like crazy, I am happy to announce that I am moving my practice to St. Jacobs Naturopathic Clinic with Dr Raza Shah. All appointments from October 1st onwards will be held in this beautiful new space. ... I have also updated my online booking link to make it even easier to get booked in with me. It is now https://jenkadosteo.janeapp.com however the old manualtherapyclinc blah, blah, blah link still works too. There is ample parking, even for horses and buggies. I can’t wait to see you there!

Your health and well being are my top priority! Here is what I have implemented to keep you safe#backtowork #newrules #safetyfirst #prescreens #ReopeningJune8 #OsteopathicThesisWriter #ManualTherapy #RMT #PPE On the day of your appointment you will be sent an online COVID-19 Point of Care screening form and be asked to complete it just prior to your appointment. At the start of your treatment you will asked to confirm that you still screen negative or the appointment will... be cancelled and rescheduled when you are clear. The interview component of initial appointment may be done over the phone to decrease the duration of the face to face appointment. Please arrive at your appointment wearing a clean disposable or reusable mask that can be worn throughout the treatment. If you do not have a mask, one will be provided to you. I will also be masked. If you cannot wear a mask for medical reasons, we must consider whether the benefits of the treatment outweigh the risk, or whether it is better to defer the treatment to later date. I ask that you arrive alone (where possible) and as close to your appointment time as possible. If you are unable to arrive alone, then the person accompanying you will be screened for COVID-19 at arrival to the appointment. The person accompanying you must also arrive at the appointment wearing a clean disposable or reusable mask or one will be provided to them. Where possible, I will ask the person accompanying you to wait in the car. Exceptions will be made for paediatric patients with guardians and anyone who requires assistance for accessibility reasons (i.e.. a translator). When you arrive, remain in your vehicle and I will text or call you when I am ready for you to enter the clinic. The door will remain locked at all other times. Walk-ins will not be permitted. You will be required to sanitize your hands upon arrival and again at the end of your treatment. A record of all people entering the clinic space will be maintained to assist with contact tracing in case it is ever required. Our clinic booking software automatically compiles these records for patients. Anyone else entering the clinic couriers, guardians, and support people/workers, etc will be asked to sign in with their name and phone number. This information will be used for contact tracing only, should someone who visited the setting later be diagnosed with COVID-19. The clinic will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between each appointment. It must be acknowledged that, despite all of these pre-cautions, there still is a risk that you could be exposed to COVID-19 while attending your appointment. I will need to be closer than the recommended social distancing guidelines to assess and treat you. You must be willing to acknowledge and accept this risk as a condition of attending your appointment in the clinic. I can't wait to see you! Jennifer

I am currently only accepting email money transfers or cheques for payment and have no reception services. Please make changes to your appointments online here @ manualtherapyclinic.janeapp.com ! As of March 17, Ontario has declared a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 spreading. For now I have chosen to still provide essential care. With your cooperation I believe that still I am still able to offer a controlled and safe environment for the provision of therapy services. To do this I am: -pre-screening all patients over the phone and via an online questionnaire -taking a full 15 minutes between appointments to sanitize all contact surfaces with a bleach soluti...on -asking patients to remain waiting in their car until the waiting room is empty and then enter the clinic. I will be locking the clinic door in between appointments and reopen it after I have finished sanitizing. -asking patients to attend appointments unaccompanied (with the exception of minors being accompanied by an adult) -refraining from using linens and pillows- I have moved to moving examination paper on the table instead -not performing any intra-oral treatments -only accepting email transfer and cheques for payments(no cash or debit please!) If you are booked into see me in the next month and you feel that your appointment is not necessary or essential, please go online and cancel it and rebook into April! The biggest reason that I am remaining in practice is that I feel that my services often decrease burden on our clinics and hospitals. Right now it is essential to leave these resources available for people in dire need. If I can prevent you from needing to see a doctor for something, then it contributes to the greater good of society. These are unprecedented times and changes are rapidly unfolding. I may change my tone as this pandemic evolves, but for now, if you feel like you NEED to see me and you pass my pre-screens, I am here for you. Stay safe, Jennifer

Cute baby alert: Meet Baby L This little sweetie was born via planned Caesarean because she was presenting Frank breech and her mom was primigravida (this was her first pregnancy). Caesareans aka C-Sections have been the most common inpatient surgical procedure in Canadian hospitals in recent years, occurring more than 103,000 times in 2018. Caesarean section rates have continued to increase while hospital births have declined. (Denver, 2018) Caesareans save lives! They a...Continue reading

Movement is part of my pyramid of health & self care! I CrossFit daily after work to stay strong and limber both mentally and physically. My son is six but my #postpartumrehab really just happened this year. I struggled prior to this as my body was not cooperating and it was discouraging. This year under the guidance of my coaches at #CrossFitWaterloo and some new found motivation, I recommitted and got moving functionally (properly as not to injure my #postpartumbody...). Although I am NEVER going to the #CrossFitGames , I participated in the #CrossFitOpen in the last 2 years. This year I did much better than last-woot woot! I attribute this success to my new found function and consistency. I struggle to describe just how great it feels to have my fitness back. This experience has given me passion for #postpartumcare. If you are struggling to move well after having babies, I encourage you to reach out to me. I would love to help!

Case Study: Meet baby Ariella. This little cutie came into this world backwards.. breech..bum first in "bunnied up" position...although this may lend her to gymnastics, it was tough and traumatic for her little body! I first met her when she was 8 weeks old. She was struggling to latch and was struggling to nurse. She would vomit up a lot of her milk and was gassy, constipated and quite fussy...but oh so cute! Medically she was considered "colicky" and a Pediatrician... had noted her hip dysplasia. She had seen a chiropractor but did not experience relief from this type of treatment. Working with infants is such a blessing. A gift! They have no inhibitory reflexes. Their tissue (like ours) holds memory and they have this innate tendency towards health, to their original(pre-birth trauma) disposition. They know how they were programmed to be! So naturally they will harness their health and treat themselves around our hands if we give them the appropriate fulcrum and dialogue. Little Ariellas digestive struggles and fussiness could be attributed to the way that her little pelvis got jammed up on the way into this world. The compression of her pelvis led to palpable tension in her dura(the membrane that protects the spinal cord) all the way up to the base of her head, where the nerves exit the skull to control the peristalsis of her digestive system and, coordinate her tongue movement-both essential to nursing. She also was referred to have her tongue & lip ties released, to ease her latch. Her mom also observed that Ariella didnt do well when she had any dairy & suspected an allergy, so chose to eliminate it from her diet which really settled her vomiting. Along with these efforts, I saw this sweet pea 4 times over the course of about a month and she treated herself in my arms, correcting her tensions and fulcruming her health as she saw fit each time. In her last session, she showed me her "bunny position" birth strain position as she balanced out and felt whole and vibrant and perfect, like she and we all were when we were created. Her mom noted improvements after each session. She is nursing and digesting well now. The Pediatrician noted that they couldnt feel her hip dysplasia anymore. Ariella knew exactly what she needed and I am so grateful for the gift of being allowed to bear witness to her treating herself

As a foodie mom who believes is eating to nourish & fuel our bodies, I have found it difficult to watch my 6 year old get a little picky with his food choices Up until this year he was such a great eater! At this age he needs to & likes to make choices and he likes to have fun & play all the time!!... My son loves taking part in cooking, especially cracking eggs & when he helps to cook & gets his hands into the food, he tends to eat well This podcast really resonates with me and is a great reminder to parents to keep things fun & let our children so explore their food through play which comes naturally to them

If you havent yet tried Osteopathy and you are wondering if it can help you, it likely can!! Traditional Osteopathy as defined by the Canadian College of Osteopathy is; A natural medicine which aims to restore function in the body by treating the causes of pain and imbalance. To achieve this goal the Osteopathic Manual Practitioner relies on the quality and finesse of his/her palpation and works with the position, mobility and quality of the tissues. We work to augment a permanent change in your body. In most cases, once health has been restored(on average in 2-4 appointments), there is no need for ongoing treatment for the same issue(s). Feel free to connect with me if you have any questions as to whether or not Osteopathy would be a good fit for you?!

I agree that this is one of the biggest gaps in our healthcare system and the inclusion of dental care would save us in costs down the road associated with heart & throat disease!! The Healthy Smiles Ontario program offers free dental cleanings & treatments to children under 17 in lower income homes. (The tables of who qualifies are listed on the Ontario government website.) Also I found a lovely, kind & highly skilled hygienist who has a home practice in Kitchener at very co...mpetitive rates. She does a full cleaning(2 units of debridment) and examination for only $100!!!-she even throws in a free whitening This is a great price!!! My dentists office compares at over $160 plus the cost of whitening for this service. https://www.facebook.com/ChampionDentalHygiene/ Although the cleanings wont help in a dental crisis, they can help prevent them See more

Before You Consider Orthotics Consider This The shape, condition and angle of your arches, as well as the length of your legs is affected by many different ...factors in the body. A problem in your knee, or a dysfunction in your hip, back, or shoulder can affect the way in which your foot meets the ground in standing and walking. Before you get assessed for Orthotics you should first be evaluated for imbalances in your body and in your posture to ensure that the problem is not being caused by other factors that may be correctable Osteopathically. Before you get assessed or fitted for Orthotics you should ensure that you have been treated to remove any imbalances that will cause false results or negatively affect the effectiveness of your Orthotics. Osteopathic Manual Treatment has the ability to assess and treat many dysfunctions in the body that create imbalances. These imbalances may actually be the root cause of your problem, meaning you may not need Orthotics! Even if you do still need Orthotics, proper Osteopathic care is necessary in order to ensure that any dysfunctions have been removed first and that you get the best fit from the Orthotic inserts. An interesting question has been coming up with clients lately in regards to manual therapy. And that is, "How do you feel what you feel??" First - practice. Ye...ars of it. Practice, confirm, make mistakes, confirm again, practice. Second - there is a certain level of confidence in your own hands, a mutual trust you have within your own body. Subtle palpation, which is used often in cranial work or visceral manipulation, requires an innate trust that your hands have been educated to the point where they know what they are doing. A.T. Still, the founder of osteopathy, said that as osteopathic practitioners we need to have "thinking, seeing, feeling fingers" - an intelligence within our skill that can move beyond the visible. Every day I wish I had x-ray vision. However, my hands are my next best tool in leu of that, and I work every day to finesse and perfect this skill in order to serve my clients bodies as accurately as I can. It is a never ending journey that I am proud to be a part of. http://i.imgur.com/ysdNK8z.jpg
