Today we mark the first National Day of Remembrance of the Québec City Mosque Attack and Action against Islamophobia. Five years ago, 6 people were killed and ...19 others seriously injured in a shooting at the Québec City Islamic Cultural Centre’s Grand Mosque. Today we remember the lives that were lost in this horrible tragedy, we honour the victims and their families, and we express solidarity with the survivors. Together, we stand united. Our thoughts are with Muslim communities in Quebec and across the country. The Government of Canada is committed to fighting Islamophobia and combatting all other forms of hate, racism and discrimination. Together, we can continue these efforts and build on our work towards a safer, fairer and more inclusive Canada. February is African Heritage month. "Through Our Eyes: The Voices of African Nova Scotians" is this year's theme.
What a beautiful day! When we have snow we want to enjoy being outside! Most classes today had the choice between a Winter Trail Walk or Sledding Friendly Reminder: Students are encouraged to wear a warm sweater & jacket and have a winter hat & mittens/gloves ready at all times (maybe keep a spare set in your locker).
Parents and families should have received an email this afternoon with an invitation to a virtual meeting for Mon Jan 24th at 7PM. This is the first meeting for our Parent Group to get together with Angela Goudey (TCRCE Parent Navigator) and Muriel Thomas (Schools Plus Community Outreach Worker). They will guide parents through short videos and conversations about some of the challenges with parenting adolescents. The theme for the first night is helping build resilience in our children. All are welcome! Tri-County Regional Centre for Education
Ours words and actions make a difference, everyday! Sometimes those actions are recognized days, weeks, or years later. Here is a Shout Out for two of our teachers from former Panthers that are now Vikings. Thanks to Rhoda Ross for sharing these kind words of gratitude! The YCMHS GSA would like to send the following Shout Outs. To Mme Kennerson, thank you from your former students for creating safe spaces at Maple Grove for LGBTQ youth ... and to Mme. Snow, thank you for inquiring about student pronouns and inclusive terminology in your classes. LGBTQ students at YCMHS send a warm thank you to you both. #watchuslearn Tri-County Regional Centre for Education YCMHS
Students in 6 Moulaison tried their hands at Snap Circuits today! Hands on learning...minds on creations! #STEM #watchuslearn Tri-County Regional Centre for Education
As a reminder a properly fitted 3-ply mask must be worn in school and on buses. For more info, please refer to the Back to School Plan here: https://backtoschool.ednet.ns.ca/returning-to-class
Rapid test kits are being distributed to students & staff today and early next week. Families have been sent an email earlier this week which shared that studen...ts & staff may choose to test up to twice per week regardless of symptoms. Please note, Public Health has provided updated instructions and now recommends swabbing both the throat and nostril. These updated instructions have been included with the kits that will be distributed. https://www.tcrce.ca/rapid-test-kit-information/ See more
We are sending rapid test kits home with students today. You will notice special instructions that have an added extra step of throat swabbing prior to swabbing the nostrils. If your child(ren) are not present but you would like to pick up a test kit for them, you can come to the school and we will bring one out for you. Please call when you arrive. 749-5160
Messy day outside today so Phys Ed classes were inside playing Fitness BINGO!
Just a reminder that tomorrow will be a regular dismissal time. (3:21)
Phys Ed Students were outside this afternoon for a winter walk. Friendly reminder students are asked to be prepared to go outside with proper winter layers (including mittens & tuque)!
Maple Grove Families, We are pleased to announce that this year we will be delivering the Open Parachute Mental Health Program to some of our students (through some of their health teachers). This program addresses issues of stigma surrounding mental health in young people, encourages help-seeking, and creates a culture of mutual support and respect for any struggles that students may face. This program was developed by Dr Hayley Watson, an adolescent clinical psychologist wh...o has been developing programs across Canada and internationally for the past 15 years. There are video-based resources to provide you, as a parent, with practical tools for supporting the well-being of your child at all stages of their life. These resources can be accessed by following the link in the attached flyer, and creating your own (free) account. This program is multi-faceted and offers a support program for parents and families to review videos and support materials that are helpful for parenting adolescents. As a parent of teenagers, I have signed up and reviewed the first modules. I appreciated that way that ideas are grouped together and chunked up in manageable time commitments. There is no obligation on your part, this is a FREE support that you might find helpful. We have planned an online meeting next week where Angela Goudey, TCRCE Parent Navigator and Muriel Thomas, Schools Plus Community Outreach Worker will help guide us through the first module that is centered on resilience. We will send out an meeting link for anyone that is interested in joining us. Thanks, Sean Kenney Principal Here is the family link: https://courses.openparachuteschools.com/co/ParentResources

Here is a peek inside one of our Wellness Weeks activities being provided for students this week! Today our grade 7 students had an opportunity to take part in a conversation around online safety with our school liaison officer, constable Mario. Students were engaged and had lots of great questions and information to share. Stay tuned as we will continue to post pictures throughout the week of the activities students have the opportunity to attend.

Lost and Found.
Recess and lunch are great times to burn off steam in middle school. All grades have been using our new outdoor equipment as well as the basketball courts and four square.
Happy New Year! This week we've been busy learning and collaborating together. We are looking forward to seeing all of our Panthers return next week. Tri-County Regional Centre for Education
Some days are easier than others...some days we need a reminder. Here is a reminder in one of our counseling offices. We believe in you!
Three of Santa's helpers have been extremely busy over the last two days. They prepared over 500 turkey dinners yesterday that were absolutely amazing! One student in grade 6 shared, "This is the best meal I've ever had at school...in fact, it's almost as good as my grandmother's!" Today, they followed it up with over 1000 pancakes for everyone!!! Carmen, Fred, and Mariah have worked extremely hard this fall preparing food for all of us where recipes include love as a special ingredient. We are so blessed to have such a talented team taking care of us!
Our TCRCE Equity team has just launched this poster to encourage support for GSAs in our schools. Posters are available to download here: https://www.tcrce.ca/gsas-in-schools-poster-launch/
Welcome back TCRCE staff. Hoping you all had a terrific holiday break. Students are back in classes again on Monday, Jan. 11.
