#WW1 #NFLD #Newfoundland #warmemorial The great lady atop the National War Memorial in St. John’s this morning. It is one of two national war memorials in Canada because Newfoundland and Canada were both British dominions in WW1. This monument was formally unveiled on Memorial Day, July 1, 1924 by Field Marshal Douglas Haig, 1st Earl Haig.

#remembranceday #remembrance #newfoundland This year on Remembrance Day I'll be in St. John's Newfoundland and I had the pleasure of getting my poppies from 99-yr old WW2 RCN veteran Rod Deon. Rod served as a shipwright on the HMCS Ottawa during #WW2 including #DDay. Rod was born in #NovaScotia, but ended up in Don Mills after the war and helped found Legion Branch 617 in 1968. He says he has never missed being a part of the poppy campaign. The Royal Canadian Legion is suffering this year financially due to Covid and the muted poppy campaign.Please donate generously.
