Lennon had a successful surgery today but was feeling a wee bit nervous before. Bridget has incredible hands on skills and didn’t think twice about getting into the dog run for a cuddle to ease sweet Lennon’s fears. Our Veterinary Office Assistants are an integral part of our team and we recognize that we couldn’t do what we do without them.

It isn’t all puppies, kittens and rainbows in this industry but when it is we’re taking a deep dive on the cuddles! Thanks for the hugs and kisses Kobe. It was great to meet you

Sweet Senna was a very good patient today coming through her spay surgery (and one tooth extraction) like it was a spa day. She’s a well loved girl by her family going home to a special pup tent and surgical suit for healing. Thanks for trusting us and letting us love you up Senna!

We are currently without power this morning. We are trying to make phone calls and text clients with first am appointments to potentially reschedule if power isn’t restored quickly. Thank you for your patience.

Harvey was asking the question on all of our minds today. When will the rain stop?

Maple Ridge Veterinary Hospital 07.11.2020

The MRVH elves were in the holiday spirit today, busily wrapping and delivering gifts for @mrpmcommunityservices, helping our VIP’s (Very Important Patients), placing some of the last of the food orders on the web store before Christmas and singing joyful holiday songs while sanitizing. It has been a strange year but our spirit around here is strong! **We also want to give a shout out to Lisa at Royal Canin and Natalie at Hill's Pet Nutrition for responding so positively to support our "adopt-a-families" with food for their cats!! <3

Sweater weather is upon us but even though peak tick season is in the spring months, colder weather still isn't enough to keep those little pests at bay. Many species of ticks are active even into the winter! Unlike the rest of Canada, the Lower Mainland doesn't freeze over, so ticks can still find little hideaways. You can do your part by starting with your backyard clean up and eliminating their favourite environments such as leaf and other garden litter. If you already us...e tick control, continue to do so, especially if you spend large amounts of time outside and check for them on your pet’s body frequently. Anytime you are enjoying our local dog parks or trail systems, do a quick run down on your pup which is probably the easiest way to detect early. Nexgard Spectra is for the treatment and prevention of flea and tick infestations. It also prevents heartworm disease and treats and controls hookworm, roundworm, whipworm, and lungworm infestations in dogs and puppies. All delivered in a delicious beef-flavoured chew! :) Text or email us if you need assistance in reordering parasite control. Now for the fun part, who has a photo of their pup in their fall cozy gear?

C C Our business practices are continuously evolving to ensure our patients receive the best care and our clients are informed and up to date with treatment plans. Curbside service hasn’t changed our approach to medical treatment or the amount of snuggles your pet is treated to but if Covid has taught us anything, it’s that we have to be more organized than ever! ... Please take a minute to review what a curbside appointment looks like (left to right) and visit our website for forms, up to date information, and other pet health resources. Thank you as always for your kindness, support and patience with the MRVH team!

M R P D Did you know that the top five names for dogs in our community are Charlie, Bella, Max, Molly and Daisy? A quick scan of our patient list would prove this accurate! ... These interesting facts are gathered when we issue dog licenses at the beginning of each year. The Maple Ridge Parks, Recreation & Culture Department wants to hear from our dog park users! Your feedback is important, especially when it comes to ensuring our furry friends have great parks to explore. We’ve posted the links on our social media channels and you can also access the survey directly on the City website at mapleridge.ca/1439. The survey deadline is Friday, October 2. Thank you so much for taking the time to be part of this important survey. If you have specific questions and comments, these can be directed to Colin Priddle, Manager of Park Services, at 604 467-7396 or by email at [email protected]. You can get more information on the most popular dog names and breeds in Maple Ridge by going to the City’s Open Government Portal at opengov.mapleridge.ca in the ‘infographics’ section.

Oh hi! I heard that going to Maple Ridge Vet was like a spa day and my wonderful techs said that I didn’t even make a peep while getting my vaccines and nail trim. Pretty solid day having humans fawn all over me.

Your pets can be affected by wildfire smoke and if you feel the effects of smoke, they probably do, too! Smoke can irritate your pet’s eyes and respiratory tract and animals with heart or lung disease and older pets are especially at risk from smoke and should be closely watched during all periods of poor air quality. So while there is still an air quality advisory in effect, here are a few tips to keep your pets safe: Keep pets indoors with windows closed Use air condition...ing, if possible, to filter the air Keep potty breaks short Avoid long walks and other prolonged outdoor exercises Keep pets well hydrated Watch for signs of respiratory stress and eye inflammation. If your pet shows symptoms, please contact us by email to: [email protected] Indoor exercise for your dog can include: Hide-and-seek Toys like the classic KONG available in our online store Fetch and tug Teaching tricks Brushing up on basic training Stay safe out there and remember, extra snuggles on the couch isn’t such a bad idea either.

Today one of our hospital cats Harvey was getting special treatment. Did you know that dental disease is one of the most common medical conditions seen by Veterinarians? More than half of all cats over the age of three have some form of dental disease. The most common problems are gingivitis (inflammation of the gums caused by the accumulation of plaque), periodontal disease (progression from gingivitis), and tooth resorption (progressive destruction of the tooth, crown an...d root) resulting in slowly progressive holes in the affected teeth. Because many cats don’t display signs of dental disease that are detectable by their owners, Nurse Wheels alerted staff to have a look around his buddy Harvey’s mouth. Prevention is key right Wheels?!

Difficult to believe that this was 19 years ago today and there are a few of us at the hospital who are old enough (we won't say who!) to remember where they were when they heard the news. Recognizing the heroism of those who worked tirelessly in search and rescue, we wanted to also highlight the courage of those four-legged workers at Ground Zero. These dogs worked in dangerous conditions, long hours, and served as much needed therapy dogs to the NYC firemen and rescue worke...rs. Veterinarians were also stationed at the site to help care for these dogs. Working 12-hour shifts on the pile, the dogs needed to have their paw pads, eyes and nose cleaned often. We forget some times that some dogs are born to work and not just be our companions. <3 Hero Dogs of 9/11 (Animal Planet) You can find the full documentary online but here is the trailer: https://vimeo.com/67476162 **Please note that this could be triggering for some viewers**
