Grey Bruce will return to the Covid-19 Response Framework on February 16th, 2021. Until Grey Bruce returns to the previous Framework, the Provincial Shutdown and Stay-At-Home orders still apply and remain in effect at this time. This is currently all of the information that we have until the Province provides additional updates. As of this morning, Public Health Grey Bruce is still unaware of when we will be informed what category we will return to. This information will ul...timately direct our community and our clinic to know how to proceed. We are excited and eager to have all of our practitioners return to the clinic, but we must wait for further direction at this time. Our fantastic office staff will contact you if your future appointment is affected. We will contact you immediately to reschedule appointments as soon as we get more information from the Province. We look forward to seeing all of our patients back in the clinic as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued support, patience, and understanding at this time. Please continue to check our website and FB page for updates. If you have any questions, please contact the clinic at 519-832-4500.

Have you heard of 'cold weather allergies?' Despite its name, it is not the weather or something directly caused by the weather that may make your allergies flare up. It can feel discouraging to get through spring and summer, expecting relief, only to be met with more allergies. Allergens are actually causing the cold weather allergies in your home. Things like dust mites, pet dander, or even indoor mold, and because we are spending more time inside, we are directly affect...ed by them. Add in the dryness from our heat that can cause the indoor air to become even dryer, adding to allergies' discomfort. How to help with indoor allergens. -Wash your sheets weekly in hot water to kill dust mites or pet dander -Wash your pets regularly, and try to have them sleep in a separate room from the person with the allergies. -Use a humidifier to reduce dryness in the air. Netipots are a great way to safely treat congestion from allergies, as well as nasal rinses. Probiotics have become a favoured treatment for allergy symptoms. Eucalyptus oils diffused in the home or room can help ease symptoms. What are some of your tricks to helping ease cold weather allergies?

Wiarton Willie predicted an early spring and with all this sunshine we believe it! With sunshine also comes the opportunity to get some extra, and much needed vitamin D in your system. Vitamin D is referred to as the Sunshine Vitamin, and it has some great benefits to us, besides just making us feel happier. Vitamin D helps our bodies absorb calcium and phosphorus, and supports normal immune function. It is linked to helping fight diseases like heart disease and even infl...uenza. What some people may not know is that the use of SSRIs, a certain type of anxiety medication, can cause a vitamin D deficiency. Be aware of the signs that you may be low on this sunshine vitamin. Aches and pains, weak bones, and even an increase in canker sores in the mouth. You can take Vitamin D supplements, but there are also a lot of VitD rich foods like: -salmon -sardines -egg yolk -shrimp -milk (fortified) -cereal (fortified) -yogurt (fortified) -orange juice (fortified) and make sure you are getting outside and getting some sun on your face (while wearing sunscreen)

If you’re like most of us right now trying to juggle working from home, assisting kids through online schooling, meal prepping, working out, drinking enough water It might be worth considering getting up earlier. Imagine that quiet, uninterrupted coffee before the rest of the house awakes. If you’re not a morning person then this seems like an out of reach fantasy, but we have some tips on how to get up earlier without it feeling like a punishment. Lean into your morni...ngs. Number one is to remind yourself of why you are getting up earlier! -to prep the day -quiet coffee for your mental health -to not feel so rushed in the morning Remembering why you are doing this can help you take those first steps to get out of bed. Drink water before bed Your body forcing you to get up is an alarm you can not ignore. Plan your daily workouts for the morning A lot of local gyms are streaming live classes that you can sign up for ahead of time. Not only are you supporting local businesses during this time, but you have committed to sign on at a certain time, for yourself. Getting up and getting moving will decrease the chances of you falling back into bed after those first initial sleepy sips of coffee. We can not be our healthiest selves when we are stressed and rushed. Taking this time to care for yourself and set up your day will help you feel your best.

There have been a lot of reports circulating discussing a different issue stemming from extended lockdowns. Back pain. With local gyms and yoga studios being closed, and a new habit of moving from your home office to your couch, our activity levels are taking a nosedive. With inactivity, we often see decreased core strength and stiffness. If you are suddenly experiencing back pain there are solutions to help get you through. Online core strengthening exercises and stretches are available. 10-20 min a day can be enough to help. Also during our Ontario provincial lockdown Registered Massage Therapy is still open. Call our office to learn about what services are open and available to help ease your discomfort.

Your Gluten-Free, Dairy-free lifestyle shouldn’t interfere with your Christmas baking! Here’s our favourite gluten-free, vegan sugar cookie recipe as a staple through the holidays. Some points to consider: To hold the dough together without eggs, you’ll be adding a Tablespoon of starch to the dough to mimic the binding power of eggs. We use corn starch, but potato starch and arrowroot powder would also work well.... For the best results, don’t roll the dough too thin. I like to keep my dough about 1/4 thick. Ingredients: 1/2 cup vegan butter, room temperature 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon almond extract 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1 Tablespoon hot water 1 3/4 cups gluten-free flour mix 1 Tablespoon cornstarch or arrowroot powder 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt 2 Tablespoons almond milk, divided 1.)Preheat oven to 350 F. 2.)For best results use your reusable silicone baking mats, if you don’t have parchment paper is great! 3.)In a large bowl, using either a stand mixer or a handheld electric mixer, beat together your butter, sugar, and light brown sugar until well blended. 4.)Combine your baking soda and a Tablespoon of hot water in a small bowl or cup. Stir until the baking soda is dissolved. 5.)To your butter and sugar mixture, add in your baking soda and water mixture, pure vanilla extract, and almond extract. Continue to mix until well blended. 6.)In a large bowl, whisk together your gluten-free flour, baking powder, cornstarch (or arrowroot powder), and fine sea salt until well blended. 7.)Gradually mix in your flour mixture a little at a time until just mixed. 8.)Add in almond milk 1 Tablespoon at a time until the dough comes together and forms a silky smooth dough. 9.)Place one of your balls of dough on a lightly floured surface, using additional flour as needed to avoid sticking. 10.)Lightly flour the top of your dough. 11.)Roll out to thick between two pieces of parchment paper. Cut out cookies using your favourite festive cookie cutters. Carefully place your cookies spaced 1 apart on the lined baking sheets. 12.)Bake for 10-15 minutes (depending on the thickness of cookies). 13.)Let cookies cool on baking sheets for 20 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely. 14.)Allow cookies to completely cool before decorating them with your favourite icing designs! Don't forget that a like and comment gets you entered in our Christmas Give-Away! For your chance to win a $100 Maple Shores Gift Card, Medistick, and a bottle of Thieves oil so share your favourite cookie recipes with us in the comments!

Kale is our favourite winter vegetable. Here is our detox friendly recipe for Kale Chips. There's a variety of seasonings that can use once chips are done, but we're opting for salt and apple cider vinegar. 6-8 cups of chopped kale, stems removed 2 tbsp olive oil 1 tsp apple cider vinegar... 12 tsp salt Crispy Kale -Place a rack on the lowest shelf of your oven. Preheat oven to 350F -Toss kale with olive oil and apple cider vinegar. Spread kale on a baking sheet. -Place on the lowest rack of the oven and bake for 10 minutes. -Remove from oven and stir. -Bake another 8-12 minutes or until kale is crispy. It should be just lightly browned and crispy to the touch. If kale still bends, rather than crackles when you touch it, it isn’t done yet. Return it to the oven. Turn down the heat if it is getting too brown. Continue cooking until crispy. - Remove from oven, and sprinkle with salt and serve immediately. Share your favourite Kale Chip seasoning in the comments!

We know that drinking water is important to a healthy life and body. Our bodies are mostly made up of water, but in busy times, or times of stress drinking enough water can take a backseat. There are signs your body is telling you to drink more water: You are feeling tired or cranky? Studies show that even mild dehydration can cause your mood to dip or create brain fog. If you notice your mind wandering and struggling to stay on task, or you're feeling irritable for no r...eason it might be time for a water break. How is your skin looking? Dehydrated skin cells look rough and dry. Drinking enough water flushes toxins out of your skin leaving you looking refreshed. Hangover headache without the hangover? Studies report that a dehydration headache will feel a lot like a hangover headache, but before you reach for pain meds, try drinking a glass of water. It can decrease the pain in as little as 30 minutes. You have been craving unhealthy snacks. Dehydration can cause difficulty in your livers' ability to release glycogen, causing you to crave sugary snacks. You can not take care of your physical self when dehydrated. Start your day with a glass of water and watch how quickly things start to turn around. We’re curious to know how much or little water everyone is drinking daily. Comment how much water you’re drinking and we’ll see what’s the average amount!
