Missing international travel? Always wanted to do the Marathon du Medoc in France, running in costume and sipping wine? You have your chance to capture some of that spirit in Regina on Saturday, Sept 5. The Marathon du Medoc is offering a virtual event this year 5 euros and proof of completion of 42.2 km will get you a snazzy Medoc finisher’s certificate. A group of Regina runners wanted to do this together and came up with the following plan to keep up precautions against ...Covid-19. - Only 15 runners allowed - Masks at the start and when you can’t maintain physical distance - The route will start and end at Gay’s garage which is 400 m from Wascana park. We’ll be doing loops of 5k, 7k or 9k and returning to the garage for wine stations. - Everyone will bring a bottle of wine or shooters or whatever they wish. They will also bring their own glass. If you wish to bring food (Medoc is famous for its unusual aid station food cheese, oysters, ice cream!), make sure it is individually packaged. If you want to participate respond to this email the first 15 responses are in. We will then send you the address, time and safety protocol. Plan on wearing a costume. If you show up without one, be warned - the organizers will have one ready for you. Medoc always has a costume theme and our theme is Animals of Wascana real or imaginary You can register with Marathon du Medoc for their virtual event or not your choice: https://www.marathondumedoc.com/en/virtual-race/ You do not have to run 42.2 km you can stop when you feel like it. Bring a mask, a drink to share (we have a protocol to do this safely), and food to share if you can divide it individually before hand. Take lots of pictures - shenanigans are strongly encouraged! We want to see all the real or imagined Wascana animals in there natural habitat, performing their rituals, having fun while being socially distant! Consider a donation to Salthaven Rescue. You MUST arrange for a safe trip home NO DRIVING AFTER THE EVENT!

The Prairie Nightmare Backyard run finished off on Aug 1. Every hour on the hour, runners completed a route of 6.707 km. Why the odd distance? In 24 hours, a runner would complete 100 miles. The pace is intended to feel easy at first, with runners typically finishing laps in 35-45 minutes, and then having 15-25 minutes to rest up, take care of their bodies and get ready for the next lap. Then as all the stresses accumulate (body and muscle aches, heat, stomach woes, blisters..., etc), it becomes a mental test to rise from the chair and face another lap. We had only 18 runners facing this challenge on a gravel road northwest of Regina- it was generously hosted by Jason and Dawn Hubick. The small numbers owed to Covid regulations in Saskatchewan where a maximum of 30 people were allowed in an outdoor gathering. Our extra challenges were heat and humidity (only 27 degrees but the sun was relentless), and the extra gravel added to the road the day before the race! Our winner and last man standing was Derek Anaquod, who demonstrated his amazing mastery of this event (in previous Backyard races, Derek has always completed at least 24 laps or 161 km). Derek is the toughest!! Special shoutouts to: Sandy MacDonald for having the courage to enter; Andrew Burant who went from a previous longest distance of 31 km to 67 km Caelan Reilly - previous PB 42 km, new PB 67 km Sheila Durand - previous PB 32 km, new PB 53 km Melissa Burns - previous PB 33 km, new PB 53 km Jason Burns - previous PB 53 km, new PB 60 km Results Derek Anaquod 16 laps completed distance 107 km Heidi Schmaltz - 15 - 101 km Shaun Hesse - 13 - 87 km Rick Minett - 12 - 80 km Andrew Burant - 10 - 67 km Caelan Reilly - 10 - 67 km Jason Burns - 9 - 60 km Jason Hubick - 8 - 54 km Melissa Burns - 8 - 54 km Sheila Durey - 8 - 54 km Tania Diener - 8 - 54 km Gay Renouf - 8 - 54 km Shawn Hesse - 7 - 54 km Shaun Quinney - 7 - 47 km Morgan Allen - 6 - 40 km Patrick Charagu - 6 - 40 km Jan Steenkamp- 4 - 29 km Sandy MacDonald - 3 - 27 km

A real race!! Just outside Regina, the Prairie Nightmare Backyard Run will take place Aug 1. Like all the backyard runs, it’s 6.71 km every hour on the hour, and you go until you can’t. But don’t be intimidated- this is not just a race for hardcore runners; it’s a great format for each runner and his or her own personal goals. The organizers are keeping safety foremost - only 25 runners and no out of province runners this year. There are still spots left - come join the fun! https://raceroster.com//3/prairie-nightmare-backyard-ultra

How are you with video filming? Could you represent our club in a video. Shawn Weimer of Queen City Marathon will be hosting a Facebook Live experience on June 3 and we would like to include runners, race directors and athletes from across the province. What he is looking for 45-90 second video shot on iphone or similar device - in horizontal alignment... main areas to touch on include; who you are, who you represent, why you love running and what the running community means to you if you are able to film in a location the represents running to you or is meaningful to your running experience that is great but not required as timelines are short. If you are able to provide a video could you post below and I will send you contact info. Shawn would like to make up a Confirmed List ASAP.
