October is women's history month, and I can't think of a better photo that illustrates how important women were to the war effort than this one which was shot a...t Burrard Dry Dock in August 1945. It was the first time that most of these women would have worked outside the home, and once they were used to working for decent wages they were bounced out of their jobs when the veterans returned. August 31st is an emotional day for many. Today (and everyday) we remember our friends and family who have succumbed to their addictions. In British Columbia, t...he overdose death rates are the largest we’ve ever seen, Covid has exacerbated Vancouvers Overdose pandemic. We call on the government for more harm reduction, safe injection sites, trauma counselling, and mental health help and awareness, and of course Safe Supply. The opioid public health emergency has disproportionately affected Indigenous people in BC (and Canada), due to the ongoing legacy of colonization (FNHA.ca) Our traditional wellness has been physically taken creating intergenerational traumas passed down. Sisters Sage is a vehicle for wellness, we seek to share our culture and knowledge in hopes to add a piece to someone’s healing journey. The opppsite of addiction is connection. Let’s reconnect to our culture, land, and people. Our hearts and love go out to everyone who is hurting from losing their loved ones and who is struggling with their own traumas and addictions.
