For Immediate Release: Indigenous Communities are Top Priority for Saskatchewan Green Party The very first thing I will do as MLA is introduce legislation addressing these urgent Indigenous issues. states Naomi Hunter, Leader of the Saskatchewan Green Party. It's past time we move on the recommendations of the MMIW Final Report and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action. We will act on the Jordan's Principle to ensure that First Nations children living o...n and off reserve have equitable access to all government funded services. We will also bring justice to a regressive and genocidal system where we find Indigenous Peoples over-represented in our jails, and in our morgues, Hunter adds. For generations, successive Saskatchewan Governments have failed Indigenous Peoples. Both the NDP and SaskParty are complicit in the pain, suffering, illness and early deaths resulting from the institutionalized neglect. It's unconscionable that so many Indigenous communities still don't have access to clean drinking water. Many live in sub-standard and over-crowded housing. The inter-generational trauma the Indigenous People suffer from, combined with poor living conditions, and lack of proper access to health and education are driving the Indigenous suicide rates to unspeakable levels. Suicide is the leading cause of death in northern Saskatchewan for a very large demographic ages 10-40, and for every 30 girls who take their lives in this province only 1 will be non-indigenous. The Saskatchewan Green Party would immediately move to enact compassionate Suicide Prevention Legislation with a focus on expanded community mental health supports and set suicide reduction target limits. Our provincial Minister of Northern Health, Warren Kaeding, is the architect of Pillars For Life health policy - a plan criticized for being so vague it’s meaningless. Since it’s been in place the suicides have continued unabated. Premier Moe could likewise care less, calling the cops on, and taking to court young Indigenous activist, Tristan Durocher, rather than simply meeting with him man to man. My family, like too many families in this province, suicie has touched our lives, says Hunter. Our governments have failed us, and I'm here to change that! Prioritizing investments in health, housing, education, high-speed internet, and public transportation will all help to reduce suicide. A Universal Basic Income will cover everyone's basic needs, providing hope and opportunity to all peoples of this province, including the First Nations. Representation matters. The Saskatchewan Green Party is offering 25% Indigenous candidates in this election. Together we pledge to be tireless advocates and allies. We are dedicated to building a thriving and healthy Saskatchewan for our children and their children. That means we are committed to long-term, practical solutions for a sustainable and prosperous future. To accomplish this, we must have the courage to confront the major challenges we face: a flawed political system, fiscal peril, job and food insecurity, growing income inequality, a cumbersome approach to health care, the climate crisis, and ecological decline. The Green Par...ty represents a new approach: an opportunity to change, for the better, our politics, our communities, and our economy. The Green vision reflects sustainability, social justice and respect. We believe that our people have the ingenuity and the will to build a prosperous and just society, with an economy that provides work for all, while respecting the natural world and our place within it. Real change engages all the possibilities of who we are. Saskatchewan Green Party Naomi Hunter Victor Lau www.saskgreen.ca/donate https://youtu.be/YAzcuKymTRs

Saskatchewan Green Party Pledges Full Health Benefits for All It is a tragedy what Premier Moe has done here. His government has wasted millions on consultants..., and privatized services. He's destroyed jobs, and weakened access to healthcare in rural Saskatchewan. exclaimed Naomi Hunter, Leader of the Saskatchewan Green Party. The best way to reverse the privatization of healthcare is to fund it properly. The Saskatchewan Green Party pledges to expand provincial coverage to include all health services like Dental, Optical and Mental Health coverage as well as complementary and alternative healing practices. We need to look after everyone in this province, and a government that approaches healthcare more holistically is the way forward. assures Hunter. We must invest in what works people, not privateers. Saskatchewan is the birthplace of medicare in North America, but over the decades it's faltered. The Saskatchewan Green Party will reverse that trend and build on our collective healthcare legacy. "My work with seniors in this province is a daily reminder that without health, we have nothing." states Hunter. for more info contact Naomi Hunter at 1-306-561-8880 [email protected]
