Latest results in the development of our underwater acoustic communications system: We have been working on improvements to accommodate higher data rates without compromising reliability and robustness. Last January, we tested our newest waveform and reached more than 26 Kilobits/s user-experienced throughput in Bedford basin - Halifax Nova Scotia. This is another horizontal shallow water environment (~30-40 m water depth) with a moving water surface and strong interfering si...gnals. We are thrilled to be that much closer to completing the development of our first commercial prototype. The original version of the following image was converted to a sound signal under the water, transmitted, and then the received sound waves were converted back into electrical signals, on which, Marecomms' proprietary signal processing algorithms were applied, giving rise to perfect recovery at 26 Kilobits/s. Hopefully many math-anxious students would find this useful: A very cool, new and simpler way to find roots of quadratic equations: https://www.youtube.com/watch
Imagine a shallow water environment, surrounded by concrete walls on 3 sides, almost like a closed box. Echos of the transmitted signal bouncing off the ocean bottom&surface and reverberation among the walls continue over a long period to heavily distort the received signal. Our modem has been tested in such unforgiving multipath conditions in the past month, and shown to maintain high data rates nevertheless, another testament to the unprecedented robustness&reliability of our system! Here is an example of what we transmitted and what we reconstructed at the receiver (prior to forward error correction).

Our sea trials returned great results. We are one step closer to presenting the only truly robust and reliable underwater acoustic communication system to the market. Many thanks are owed to Jerrad Johnson from Geospectrum Technologies, Kyle Burton from Innovacorp and the Cove ocean!
