Want to fall asleep quickly - try this 4-7-8 breathing technique! 1) First LIE on your BACK in a comfortable position. Having one hand on your chest and the other on your tummy may help bring attention to your breath. 2) Place the TIP of your TONGUE BEHIND your TWO FRONT TEETH, keeping it there throughout this breathing exercise.... 3) BREATHE IN DEEPLY through your NOSE ONLY, filling up your lungs, feeling your rib cage widen. Do this for a mental count of 4 seconds ... one one thousand, two one thousand... 4) Then, HOLD YOUR BREATH for a count of 7 seconds. 5) Then with intention, SLOWLY EXHALE through a slightly open mouth, keeping your tongue in position which will make a whooshing sound. Completely empty your lungs. Do this for a count of 8 seconds. 6) Repeat 3 times minimum. Feel the body RELEASE and RELAX into the mattress with each repetition. 5) Resume normal breathing when you feel complete. It's a technique my Dad taught me and I find it really works.
