Songhees Nation is part of a $9.5 million Clean Coast, Clean Waters Initiative Fund being used to tackle shoreline cleanups and derelict vessel removals from the north coast to southern Vancouver Island. The funding is being distributed to four agencies, one of which is the Songhees Development Corporation. Congratulations to Songhees Nation and thank you for continuing your centuries of stewarding the land and seas.

"...it is long-standing political inaction and failed policy measures that have resulted in the thousands of lives lost to overdoses and now, drug toxicity." BC's provincial government has said it is seeking "an exemption from drug possession laws under Section 56 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. As Covid exacerbates an existing crisis, laws and policies must change now.

Just announced by David Eby, BC Attorney General & Minister Responsible for Housing: "The Province, through BC Housing, has purchased the Capital City Center Hotel, which will provide nearly 100 temporary supportive homes for people experiencing homelessness in Victoria. There are plans to redevelop the site into affordable rental housing over the long term." Details in the news release, link below.
