As part of the exceptional support that Marianopolis offers, this semester students have drop-in hours with experts from Academic Advising, Counselling and the AccessAbility Centre on how to develop key study skills such as managing time, creating study plans and taking notes. Drop-ins hours are available on multiple days during the week. Students discuss best practices and develop strategies to help them succeed.

Congratulations to second-year Honours Social Science student Roselyne Du on being named one of eight winners across Canada of The Quarantine Diaries, a writing project by the Creative Arts Foundation of Canada. Her work will be published in December. In addition to serving on the Marianopolis Student Union’s Social Justice Committee, she is executive of three student clubs.

Two workshops by the Office of the Associate Dean, Student Success are among the offerings that aim to ease the transition from high school to college for first...-year students. In keeping with the fall semester being delivered via a combination of in-person and remote learning, an academic-skills workshop is taking place on campus, while a workshop to help students who are studying in English for the first time is taking place via Zoom. New students have registered in large numbers for the two workshops, which are being offered in small groups over multiple sessions. The Office of the Academic Dean, Student Success is also offering a series of webinars to help students with applications for university. The first workshop takes place next week and is for students who are interested in applying to university in the United Kingdom and United States.

Enrolment Services Summer Hours and Closures Please note that the Admissions Office will be closed from July 20, 2020 to August 7, 2020 inclusive and the Registrar’s Office will be closed from July 24, 2020 to July 31 2020 inclusive. During the summer both offices close at noon on Fridays.

Congratulations to second-year Pure and Applied Science student Jing Han Sun on being the only student in the province to be awarded a prestigious Horatio Alger... Scholarship. The honour includes $10,000 for university studies and recognition for perseverance despite adversity, strength of character, a good academic record and a desire to contribute to society. "This award represents my hard work and dedication for the past few years," said Jing Han, who created a private tutoring business which helps students and organizes educational workshops. She is interested in data science and software development and plans to study Mathematics and Computer Science at McGill University.

Congratulations to incoming student Thomas Khairy on becoming the youngest principal author published in the New England Journal of Medicine. The findings in ...Infections Associated with Resterilized Pacemakers and Defibrillators are promising for parts of the world with limited access to pacemakers and defibrillators. Thomas began this work as a Secondary III science fair project at Loyola High School. He also worked on it for several years in collaboration with the Montreal Heart Institute. In welcoming Thomas to the Marianopolis Class of 2022, the College recognized the 15-year-old with a Director General’s Student Life Scholarship for his significant potential to contribute to the quality of student life and his demonstrated leadership; concern for the welfare of others; involvement in school activities and volunteering experience.
