I’m amazed at this novel. The focus on the two main characters’ sisterly bond is unforgettable. What would you do for you sister? Cover up a murder? How about three murders? Frame an innocent man? Give up your future happiness? I know I’d probably do anything and everything for mine. This novel really made me contemplate how deep a relationship has the potential to be... even if one sister is a sociopath. While I was reading, I loved each an every flaw in the characteristics ...of the females. They are liars, jealous of one another, murderers, etc. but they still entice sympathy from me as a reader. I felt for Korede’s plight, as the older sister focussed on protecting her younger sister, she did was she thought was best. I personally liked the choppiness of the chapters, I read some reviews saying that they wished there was a more fluidic movement within the chapters and storyline but I loved that each chapter focused on one thing (Instagram, the knife, Korede’s break time) and really tied it in while furthering the plot. Also, the SOCIAL COMMENTARY! This part really reminded me of my Greek History classes. In Ancient Greece, people were obsessed with beauty. If you were beautiful on the outside you MUST also be beautiful on the inside. An Athenian politician and general, Alcibiades was gorgeous, smart, and gifted. He is still known as one of the most attractive men in history but he was also the biggest DOUCHE. He got drunk instead of preparing to set out to war, he drunkenly defaced a lot of statues (he ripped the penis’ off if I remember correctly), he switched sides to the Spartans (a big no-no), switched to Persia (an even bigger grievance), and did so much more. He was irresponsible and self-centred but people were blinded by his beauty. This reminds me a lot of Ayoola, the sociopathic sister. She is beautiful, wants pricey things, is perfectly fine with men cheating on their wives, is self-centred, and most importantly, is a blameless MURDERER. I love that latter noun. This was such a fascinating read, highly recommended! #mysistertheserialkiller #penguinrandomhouse #freecopy #review #bookstagram #bookreview #justread @ Toronto, Ontario
