I work with people who are willing to create sustainable lifestyle changes that promote mental health & wellness, prevent mental illness, and ward off anxiety & depression. We do this by creating awareness and setting small, actionable, values-driven changes. The focus is on building up your wellbeing or how to be happy and resilient even during periods of stress. Psychology is my passion I love learning about behaviour, motivation, development and how the brain and nervou...s systems work. In particular, I incorporate the following into my coaching practice: > The theories and practices of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), > Scientific finding of neurobiology, especially mindful awareness and psychophysiology (the mind-body connection) > Behaviour modification techniques > And of course, scientifically backed positive psychology interventions A little caveat: I really like to cuss. In 2009 I graduated from @YorkUniversity with a Specialized Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. I knew I wanted to help people live happy, fulfilling lives and so I completed a Human Resources Management post-graduate Certificate with honours from Georgian College. My hope was to enrich people’s work lives and help them find happiness in the setting where they spend a significant amount of their time. Turns out that’s not exactly the focus of human resource profes...sionals after all. I shifted gears and started exploring the field of #PositivePsychology. I became a Certified Positive Psychology Coach under the training and supervision of Dr. Robert Biswas-Deiner and studied The Science of Wellbeing through Yale University. I continue to further my skills by studying psychophysical health (the mind-body connection), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (#ACT), and behaviour modification/motivation strategies. In my practice, I draw from these multiple fields of science (#neurobiology, #psychology, #psychophysiology) to apply evidence-based interventions. Working collaboratively with my clients, we focus on the behavioural, mental and lifestyle changes that will promote a state of health & wellbeing. I use a Positive Psychology Approach to coaching. Ultimately what underlies this approach is a focus on working towards wellbeing as a process looking at the things in our daily lives that promote overall physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely ridding ourselves of illness. It doesn't mean it’s all smiles, rainbows and unicorns. Being happy all the time is totally unrealistic, not to mention inappropriate at times. Sometimes life will knock us sideways with som...e really difficult circumstances. What to expect in a coaching session: While the coaching sessions have a loose structure (we follow up from the last session, set an agenda, and at the end wrap up with actionable items) I meet you where you’re at. There’s no script or procedure we’re prescribed to. I customize my approach based on what you bring to the table. During the session you can expect me to ask a lot of exploratory questions. This leads to new discoveries, insights and thought provocation. If you’r...e up for it, I’ll challenge you, and I expect you to feel some discomfort. After all, change can be uncomfortable! Where appropriate we sometimes do activities, and you might even be assigned some homework. But remember, I’m here for you and if you’re not into any of that, that’s totally okay. Most of the change happens outside of the sessions. The sessions are the space to hold tough conversations, get new perspective on issues, and find direction. After the session your brain will need some time to process and reflect. And most importantly, you are the one responsible for creating the change you wish to see.
