Secondly, have you checked out how great our current Yoga-Teachers-In-Training are doing? They are rocking those Sunday charity classes. The idea our chakras need to balanced, unblocked, released from emotional baggage etc. was something I had to unlearn from one of my teachers, Brenda Feuerstein a few years back. And in this past last week, during a 5 day training with Indu Arora we explored the chakras through the lens of the Samkhya Darshan, the Shad Chakra Nirupana, the Shiva Sutras, the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra and the Netra Tantra, where I took an even deeper dive into the subtle body and into the truth. ... However, this post in not actually about the chakras per se. It’s about learning and unlearning. I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program in 2009. This is typically where folks start when they’re interested in teaching Yoga. The key word from that last sentence is start. However, this is also where many people end their formal training (and then go on to sometimes teach a new crop of upcoming teachers). But I digress. Looking back to that time when I started 12 years ago, I was super naive. Naive to the fact that truly, I had no idea what I was getting myself into and the responsibility I would soon feel, holding this tradition of Yoga in my heart. The more trainings I took and the more designations I acquired, the more I questioned whether I was qualified to even teach at all. While it is so wonderful Yoga has become immensely popular and accessible, there is no denying the fact that a lot of the teachings have been diluted or misrepresented. I, like so many, learned about the typical 7 chakra system seen on many posters and featured in even more books. I too, learned’ about how abandonment issues and broken hearts could burden my poor chakras and I must resolve these emotional issues if I ever wanted to feel my energy centres spin again! I have even shared that same misinformation. For that I deeply apologize. Indu recognized this feeling would be shared in the group and I appreciate her words, Now that you know better, you can do better. I realize I will never know everything this vast subject of Yoga has to offer. But I continue to learn, (sometimes unlearn) and grow. It is a lifelong study. I am forever a humble student. P.S. I feel the musings from this post can also extend to the issues of cultural appropriation in Yoga. Indu has a talk on that coming up that I think will be important. You can find the details here: https://innerpeaceyogatherapy.lpages.co/cultural-appropri/ P.S.S. Thank you to my friend @Brenda Little for letting me borrow your crown chakra. Which is actually not a chakra <3 Samantha

Samantha here for MYC. The nice thing about Zoom is that we are able to connect with wonderful teachers such as Brenda Feuerstein who live outside our province. As part of the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, students have 10 hours total with Brenda to dive deeper into the philosophy manual her and her late husband Georg created. ... Last night was our first talk. And one of my favourite moments was taking about clouds. Clouds represent our ego and all of the loopy thoughts associated with the self we identify with in our day-to-day. According to Yoga, this is not our true Self. We are so much more. And these insights may be revealed to us if we stop and pay attention. This all came up as we were discussing how reactionary behaviour can be, whether that behaviour comes from us and/or from the people we interact with. I know in past interactions that have felt a little harsh, I have said to myself, that’s just their stuff and left it at that. But I wasn’t really seeing that person. I was just seeing their clouds. Most of the time really, our clouds are just bumping up against each other’s clouds and we’re not truly seeing each other. Most mornings I ask my daughter (she’s 5) what do you hope for today? This morning she said she hoped a boy in her class (who gets into trouble a lot and is sometimes a bully to the other kids) has a good day and she sent him some extra love. My hope for today is that we as adults can have this same level of compassion for those we interact with. As well as more compassion for ourselves. They’re just clouds. #philosophy #yogapei #yoga #yogateacher #yogateacherintraining #clouds

"The Tao is based on harmony between emptiness and abundance" - Tao Te Ching It has been a month, exploring the Yin to our Yang in the SomaYin course. We completed today and are so grateful for the beautiful souls who took part. We are so proud and excited for them to bring this work forward.... May everyone enjoy the 3 principles of Yin on and off the mat - more stillness, time for yourself and the appropriate amount of stress! Thank you Chris Skinner for the lovely infinity bracelets. You can find his work at the Charlottetown Farmers Market. #yin #yinyoga #somayin #somatics #yogapei #yoga #yogateacher
