Christmas tree lights should not be left on for prolonged periods of time or overnight. Even LED lights can overheat and become a potential fire hazard. Make it a habit to turn off or unplug your lights and decorations every time you leave the house or go to bed at night.

It's been a full decade since the tree on top of the Delta Hotels by Marriott Prince Edward was lit - and we, with the help of our friends at CMP Equipment Mari...time Electric and Blue Electric Ltd. thought this was the year to bring it back. Similar to the Heart that lit our hotel up in March, this tree is a sign of the things we know to be true - Islanders can get through anything, together. This holiday season, we bring you a glimmer of hope when you look UP. . Not only is this tree a sign of hope as we say goodbye to 2020, it's a special gift to our friends at Special Olympics PEI. Islanders have banded together to "buy a bulb" with all proceeds going to this great charity. (If you would like to buy a bulb or donate to support our friends at Special Olympics PEI, link --> https://www.specialolympics.ca/pei) . A very special thanks to Maritime Electric who provided the bulbs to light the tree, Blue Electric who installed the lights & wired everything together and CMP who spent countless hours bringing our old tree back to life. . Islanders helping Islanders is the theme of 2020, and we can't wait to see how that leads us into the new year. . The Delta Prince Edward by Marriott team See more
Did you know that overloaded outlets are a common cause of holiday fires? Avoid overloading electrical outlets; if a circuit becomes overloaded, it can overheat and start an electrical fire. This holiday season stuff stockings, not electrical outlets or power bars, and stay safe.
If you own or operate a space heater when the cold weather comes, follow these simple tips to operate it safely: Place the heater on a hard, level and nonflammable surface. They are intended to sit on the floor, not on a table. Keep the space heater at least 3 feet away from combustible materials, such as furniture, bedding and curtains.... Turn it off when you leave the room or go to bed. Unplug the heater when it’s not in use by pulling the plug straight from the outlet. Check the cord for damage periodically, and don’t use the heater if the cord is frayed or worn. Don’t plug another electrical device or an extension cord into the same outlet as a heaterthat can cause overheating.
Happy Thanksgiving, from all of us at Maritime Electric!

Do you own or operate a heat pump? With every new season, it’s important to remember to get the filter cleaned in your heat pump to keep it running at optimal efficiency.
It’s Fire Prevention Week, a reminder that simple actions in the home can help keep you and your family safe. Help prevent an electrical fire from happening in your home by following these important tips: - Check for faulty electrical outlets and never use an appliance with a worn or frayed cord. - Never run cords under carpet. - Keep space heaters away from curtains, beds, clothing, etc.... - Check the battery on smoke detectors on each level of your home. - Always check the maximum recommended bulb wattage on any lighting fixture or lamp and never go over the recommended amount. - Only use extension cords as a temporary measure.
