This painting I did for Elbow Room Britannia. It is a 48 x 60 painted in mixed media on a birch panel. Loved painting this....unique piece for this contemporary and inviting restaurant. I took an abstract class with Joan Fullerton a few weeks ago. I wanted to incorporate abstract marks into my landscape paintings and absolutely love how Joan portrays it. So today, good friend and fellow artist, Jan Murray and I went plein aire painting on the ridge of our farm. Our thoughts were to try and keep bold abstract brush marks in our work. It was fun and I will definitely do more of it! 'Lone Bale', 11 x 14, Acrylic

Delivered this commission to collectors, Sandra and Glenn Becker. It is a large painting, 18 x 60, so fits nicely in an alcove in Sandra's office and it looks great in its chosen spot. They are very happy and so am I!

The colours aren't quite right on this photo but I still wanted to show this commission I just completed. My clients wanted a painting of Calgary and Ottawa where they originate from so their daughter can relate to both cities. I was up for the challenge....my vision was to have one painting flow into the other and paint it in a more impressionistic approach. Also, the clients didn't want a lot of colour....mostly everything between black and white with just a splash of colour. Below is the result ....happy to say clients are thrilled with it! Nothing like seeing happy customers faces when they first view it...makes commissions very special. Thanks very much Andrea and Dennis Lowe.

I will be having a show at Midtowne Gallery from June 3 - July 15. I will be featuring a collection of landscapes painted in acrylic or oil. There are only 4 spots left in a workshop I am teaching at Final Touch Art Studios in Cochrane AB! I have titled the class "Paint the Landscape in Acrylic or Oi...l". This will be a fun and energetic learning environment....no intimidation and open to all skill levels! I will paint a short demo each morning with acrylics and I will explain my techniques from start to finish. These simple techniques students will apply to their own work. My goal is to take the intimidation out of painting and make it a rewarding experience! Students will have the choice to paint the same painting or paint from their own reference. I will demo landscapes but seascape, mountainscape .... any kind of 'scape' is welcome! The class runs on saturdays, November 19, 26 and December 10. They are from 10am to 2 pm. The total cost for the 3 days is $157.50. If you are interested but cannot attend all 3 days, please let me know and you can take the class for the days you can attend and the fee will be adjusted. It would be ideal for all 3 days but I know we have busy lives! You will need supplies and I will provide a list upon registration and I promise you won't need to spend hundreds of dollars. Almost always my favourite part of the painting process is the beginning! This is acrylic on a vertical format 32 x 16. I have a plan for it but sometimes painting intuitively is the most rewarding journey.

Having fun with oils today. Still loving the palette of greens, violets and oranges. Photo was taken not too far from my house. Lots of wild flowers in the ditches

Maybe tomorrow too....

Decided this morning was a perfect time for,plein aire! My backyard, a few critters, birds.....was fun! Only had 45 minutes to paint but time limits can be good...must paint intuitively which can be uplifting and energizing!

Who knew that Rob's shop would make such a super studio space for my workshop "How to Paint a Dynamic Landscape"? Thanks Rob!

The artist reception was fun and busy! Thanks to Janet Armstrong for a great show, Anne McGilvary for hostessing, and Marty Cochrane for his excellent music entertainment. Marty is a super talented singer and musician....you need to check him out! I hope you enjoy this sneak peek of paintings. Photos were taken on an iPad so they really need to be seen to show at their best!"

I taught an Acrylic Landscape Workshop at Paintworks Studio on Saturday. What a blast! a great group of 10 eager students. The day flew by way too fast and I can hardly wait to teach there again this fall. Paintworks is a wonderful art supply and studio in Okotoks owned and operated by Rani. I highly recommend this gem of a store that has it all! Thanks Rani!
