Hihi I thought I would take a second to introduce myself to anyone that is following that might not know me already. I’m Marlena and I am currently serving as principal violist of the Thunder Bay Symphony in Northern Ontario, Canada. Playing and performing classical music has been my life’s work so far- with a special interest in contemporary music and interdisciplinary collaboration. I started a podcast called Non-Essential Workers as a response to the events of 2020. I felt... a need to create a platform where artists from many different disciplines can connect and have unfiltered conversations about their craft and issues that matter to them! Our creative voices are necessary and important to our world. It has been so nice to feel the energy that is manifested through these connections with old and new friends and has personally taught me a lot so far. Originally from Seattle, WA, Shay relocated to Montreal in 2010 where he completed his undergraduate and master's degrees in jazz performance at McGill University. His first solo release was in 2014, an EP entitled Homeward. In 2017, Evan was named one of the 35 Best Canadian Jazz Artists Under 35 by CBC Music. His band Lawful Citizen released a self-titled EP in... 2017 and a full-length release Internal Combustion in 2018. In 2019, Shay attended the Banff International Workshop in Jazz & Creative Music, where his identity as a producer truly began to take shape.
