Don’t punish a growl A growl from your dog is a communication attempt. A growl is their way of telling you they can’t handle a situation, for example: I can’t handle this I’m not comfortable with this situation... I don’t like what you are doing or I don’t want you to be here In addition to other meanings which are often overlooked. Many people see growling as a negative behaviour when it is actually something to be thankful for as the dog is trying to communicate with us! If you choose to ignore the warning signs your dog is displaying, you may end up with a dog who will bite without warning, as they have learned that it is not safe to warn as the message was not received. Reach out to a dog trainer or behaviouralist if your dog is displaying communication and you want to learn how to understand.
