My thoughts and reflection about this past year. Love is not canceled! One thing that this pandemic has taught us is that nothing goes as planned and that the simple things are sometimes the best. Spending time with family and friends, hugging and sharing a meal. This is what was missed, everything else are merely extras. For many this year has been a reset of priorities. ... Many couples have had to reschedule their weddings multiple times and some decided just to go ahead with a Covid wedding with masks, less guests and social distancing. These obstacles did not take away from the beauty of moment. In fact, it added more. I believe some wedding trends will continue post covid. Such as; live streaming, micro weddings and smaller intimate weddings. I am delighted as an officiant that the ceremony has become the focus instead of a formality to get to the reception. I often feel like the bass player of the band, not noticed and under appreciated. As I said many times to couples this year... "So, as we are here today for your marriage ceremony, this is what matters most. Marrying your best friend, your soulmate, standing as a united front against the ups and downs of life. Knowing that the strength of the two of you together is stronger than one." 2020 will be a year we will never forget. My 2021 wish for all of you is to have healthy and peaceful times filled with love. "Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture. The student expected Mead... to talk about fishhooks or clay pots or grinding stones. But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery.
