On this #nationalcancersurvivorsday let’s collectively acknowledge and understand that Black individuals have the highest death rate and lowest survival rate of all ethnicities for most cancer subtypes in North America. This is largely due to systematic failures in accessibility to standard of care prevention measures and screening programs, driven in part by socioeconomic barriers and, let’s be clear, #racism . Cancer affects us all, but it absolutely should not take a gre...ater toll on someone based on the amount of melanin in one’s skin. Systematic racism permeates ALL aspects of modern daily life - and we all need to be actively taking part in dismantling it in whatever ways we can. I love this image by @ihartericka . Read more below and be sure to check out their resources for *unlearning*, something we all should be engaging in right now. Posted @withregram @loveshovel . @ihartericka and their partner Ebony. Sex educator, gender/race/social justice disruptors. Writer. Breast cancer survivor. Please follow their work and essential voices for queer black lives. Plant and dog parents, hilarious and SO wise. White friends, please consider buying their online educational unlearning courses. #amplifymelanatedvoices #amplifyqueerblackvoices #blacktranslivesmatter #cancersurvivor #cancerthriver #blacklivesmatter #unlearning #unlearnandrelearn #canceraffectsusall #butsomemorethanothers

In celebration of #nationalcancersurvivorsday Posted @withregram @drheatherpaulson Do you know this woman? Her name is Henrietta Lacks.... At 30 years old she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. It was 1951. Her cells, known as HeLa cells, were the first immortal cell line to be discovered. They were collected without her knowledge or consent. The cells were sold for profit and medical research without payment to her family. If you are a cancer survivor you can thank Henrietta for: allowing researchers to understand cancer cells developing new treatments for cancer proving HPV is a triggering factor for cervical cancer It you have never had cancer you can thank Henrietta for: IVF Polio Vaccine understanding and treating HIV tuberculosis treatments understanding the effects of radiation As we celebrate cancer survivors on national cancer survivor day - lets also celebrate the people that have helped advance treatments and improve survival rates. Thank you Henrietta You can read more or watch the movie: Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot #blacklivesmatter #blackwomenmatter #cancersurvivor #cancerthriver #cervicalcancer #henriettalacks #nationalcancersurvivorsday See more

It’s Naturopathic Medicine Week in , and as we begin the process of normalizing, what a great time to delve into the status of your health and wellness - whether you are new to this type of healthcare, or you regularly visit an ND as part of your comprehensive health team, or lie somewhere in between. Naturopathic Medicine as it stands is not alternative - it is based on the principles of #prevention , finding the root cause of illness, an #individualized approach to... treatment plans, treating while minimizing or avoiding harm, and, above all, empowering through #education . In essence, this is really back to basics. And fits alongside conventional medicine in a very complementary way. Part of what makes this possible is the time NDs are able to allocate to individual appointments. I am very, very proud to be practicing a form of healthcare that offers lasting, sustainable, real change in people’s health and well-being. You can find an ND close to you through @canadiannaturopathicdrs or @ontario_naturopathic_doctors . The real change, though, doesn’t happen with an ND. Or an MD, or anyone else for that matter. It happens with *you*, with others helping to guide the way. If you make one change when returning to your normal, no matter what it is, I hope it is one that is supportive of reaching your best self The greatest change happens from planting the smallest seed. . . . #plantyourseed #rooted #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicdoctor #holistichealth #treattherootcause #preventativemedicine #integrativemedicine #collaborativehealthcare #complementarymedicine #roottorise #nextgen #nextgenliving #sustainableliving #optimizeyourhealth #beyourbestself See more

Trying to keep my family on the #astragalus (or, as my dad has lovingly nicknamed it, struggle-with) bandwagon to support lung Qi and innate immunity during these weird times. Sweet, moistening, and slightly warming from a Chinese medicine perspective, it also is nice for those who have some digestive issues (#spleenqiproblems). One of my favourite herbs, it also can play a role in supportive cancer care . . . #traditionalasianmedicine #botanicalmedicine #herbalmedicine #rootingforherbs #rooted #immunesupport #cancercare #plantkingdom #lunghealth #adjuctivecancercare #lungqi #astragalusmembranaceus
