Martin's Safety Training 23.09.2020

This post is about the work being done on the peace bridge, and why we are training U.S workers for when they get to the Canadian side of the bridge. See the ...pictures and labels for details. The Job: Blasting the old paint and repainting the Entire structure, I was told 20 - 30 Million U.S. $ project They do not use silica, but steel shavings. They cannot use small steel pellets as they make the metal too smooth. They use shavings/grit metal. They enclose the area with tarps to keep the blast contained, it falls to a platform assembled all the way under the length of the bridge, and another one under the upper arch above the road. The platforms also supply access for workers, then they have to climb the girder ladders to get to their work location. There are 4 different crews to accomplish the work. 1. -rigging crew -they build and follow engineer designs on everything from the platform to the guard rails, including the swing stages we are training operators. This crew has at least 3 Canadian residents from Six Nations Brantford area -they require Working At heights Training & Swing Stage User & Installer Training from us. 2. The Blasting crew -they are exactly what it says, they run very powerful blasters fed by huge compressors. in fact the swing stage must be tied to the girders when they are blasting because it will force the stage backwards out of reach. The swing stage climber motors are also air powered. There is a supply & distribution header system on the stage. -they require Working at Heights & Swing Stage user Training 3. The painting crew -we have to come back to train this crew. -they use paint guns also powered by compressors -they require Working at Heights & Swing Stage user Training 4. The "ground" crew, that works on the platforms on the bridge. they vacuum, clean up supply tools and other things to the other crews. -They require Working At Heights
