Here is an update on the cenotaph in Martintown. The pad is done, the photos give a perspective of location. The next phase is to remove forms, back fill around the pad and install the four corner stones. Hope is to have that complete prior to November 11 th . Hopefully on the evening of the 10th November, those with memorial crosses will gather, with a small ceremony place their crosses and light them up.... Public fundraising is ongoing with the offering of a Marker (a white cross c/w a tea light) for a donation of $50 or more. Where to send donations: Cheques can be made to: Martintown Cenotaph Project, c/o Bev Runions, 5542 County Rd. 20, South Glengarry, ON, K6K 0A7.

Lest we forget A Cenotaph is being planned for the village of Martintown, ON to remember all members of the Canadian Armed Forces from the village of Martintown who gave the ultimate sacrifice during WW I and WW II. The village has identified 22 soldiers to date and the search continues. The Township of South Glengarry is the Sponsor of this project. The Martintown Cenotaph Committee is being lead by Gerry Duguid, a retired Canadian Military Engineer Chief Warrant Officer,... and is composed of ten volunteers who are overseeing the project, including raising the necessary funds. The Cenotaph will be located on a highly visible knoll within the township’s Ken Barton Sr. Park. This park includes a number of memorial trees, has walkways along the Raisin River, and includes picnic tables and BBQ areas. The planned time line is to have the project completed no later than August 2021. Once completed, the upkeep and maintenance of the cenotaph will be the responsibility of the South Glengarry Township that maintains the township’s Ken Barton Sr. Park in which the Cenotaph will be located. In order for this project to be completed, we need the financial help of all, including those who live in the community, or have lived in Martintown at some time. This cenotaph will honour all those who have served their country past and present. It will be a permanent reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women of Martintown. Your contributions will be very much appreciated. Public fundraising is ongoing with the offering of a Marker (a white cross c/w a tea light) for a donation of $50 or more.
