Marvellous Edibles Farm 16.11.2020

Hello Everyone, (Nov 16 week) Well, we are back to typical November weather. Up here it means snow squalls. Hopefully not too many and not too long! We are expecting some snowfall here early this week, that probably means we will not be able to pick too much from the fields. There is still quite a bit out there but not sure how much longer we can pick. The Toronto Farmers Market Collective is on to a very promising start! It is amazing to be part of a grassroots organization... which promotes individual small businesses as a group, especially during this unending pandemic! We know that there are some minor glitches with the Localline Hub. Till we figure out how to make it work perfectly, just use Marvellous Edibles web store and choose the location you want to pick up from. Christmas is approaching fast, and I am already in Christmas Baking Preparation mode. I am hoping to be able to start offering Stollen and Christmas Cake for pickup Saturday, November 28. We should also have fresh pork, turkeys and geese on the list that same weekend. Those of you who celebrate American Thanksgiving will have an excellent list to choose from! If you are picking up at Dufferin Grove please send me a separate email and I will organize a special pick up November 26. So, to be clear: Your Christmas birds are going to be ready for fresh pick up on November 28. If you want to wait as close to Christmas as possible, then we will keep them for you, frozen, till the date you choose. If you want them cut up, then please place your orders as soon as possible and let us know because we will not be able to cut them up after November 28. As we get closer to Christmas we may be able to offer alternative pickups on the 23rd. I will keep you posted. This week we are adding 90 Northline Road ( Fisherfolk Store) as a pickup location as well. The time is Saturdays 10 am to 1 pm. Many thanks to our wonderful friends Jennifer, Greg, Meta and Sebastian for making this happen! Here is the link to Marvellous Edibles Store: https://www.localline.ca/marvellous-edibles-farm Don't forget we are at Dufferin Grove with many wonderful vendors, thursday pickups may be more convenient or you can choose delivery; https://shop.dufferingrovemarket.ca/ Hoping to see everyone on Saturday, Ayse, Jens and Cengiz

Hello Everyone, (Nov. 9) A big thank you to everyone who came out to St Michael & All Angel's Church for TFMCollective pickups! It was an amazing, warm and sunny day and everyone was in a great mood! Jens was talking about all the customers he had not seen for a while. And I was at Evergreen and got a chance to reconnect with the group that used to do pick ups from us at Northline. This weekend is going to be more seasonal temperatures but still not too bad. At the farm, we ...are really taking advantage of these beautiful temperatures and dry days, and are in a mad dash to do everything we have to do before the first snowfall. We fertilized the asparagus so that we could keep on growing those thick stalked "Jersey Giant '' asparagus in spring and we finally planted our garlic. We prepared 2 large greenhouses for spring (yes spring!) both mesclun and spinach are planted and hopefully going to be ready in large amounts for mid March after the winter batch gets a bit too old. Our winter carrots are going to be ready next month and we may start cutting some spinach from another greenhouse next week. We still have Jerusalem Artichokes, collards and kale in the field and if the weather keeps on behaving, we will keep on harvesting them every week. I have always wanted to be a winter farmer and am on a mission to prove that you can "eat local" no matter what season we are in. This week, in our online store I am including "deposit for Christmas Turkey or Goose ". Christmas is on a weird date this year, it would have been impossible to have fresh birds for Christmas sales, so they are going to the butcher November 23, and for those of you who celebrate American Thanksgiving, turkey and goose will be available on November 28 fresh. After that they will be available frozen, and if you liked the cut up option that was offered Thanksgiving, that will be possible too. Let's get back to this coming weekend: We will be at : Wychwood Barns indoors- retail sales only 8 am to 1 pm Evergreen Brickworks outside, Retail sales and TFMC pick up location 8 am to 1 pm St Michael & All Angels Church TFMC pick up location 9 am to 12 pm, there will be some retail available. I will be adding 2 more pick up locations on the 21st when Brickworks goes indoors to the Kilns. Here is the link to the Marvellous Edibles store: https://www.localline.ca/marvellous-edibles-farm. You can find all the pick up sales locations there. And Here is the link to the TFMC website where you can find all the members of the Collective and learn about why we have formed this collective: https://farmersmarketcollective.ca You can access Marvellous Edibles shopping from this site as well. I recommend using a few filters to navigate your way through all the vendor offerings. Hope you have a great week and to see you on Saturday! Ayse, Jens and Cengiz See more

Hello Everyone, (Nov. 2) After doing the coldest October 31st Market I have ever done (Xenie, Kunsang and Tess too- poor things!), on Sunday afternoon, it started snowing and snow squalling in the Grey Bruce area. We had Snow Squall warnings and the funny part is almost all the trees, especially the willows, still have their leaves on, my rose garden is still flowering. And now, they are talking about high teens to low 20's for next weekend. A true Indian Summer! I guess we... will get a final chance to get caught up. We are really behind with all the pre winter stuff we normally do, so unless there are some last minute forecast changes, we will be in good shape. So, October 31st was the last outdoor market at the Barns. Starting November 7, there will be a smaller rotational market indoors at the Barns. Maximum Vendor number is 18 and the maximum number of shoppers allowed at once will be 50. We have only 2 dates indoors at the Barns in November: November 14 and November 28. We will direct all our Wychwood area pickups to St Michael & All Angels Church at the corner of Wychwood and 611 St Clair Avenues regardless of which Saturday in November it is. It is literally a 2 minute walk from the market. This Saturday Jens will be handling the pick ups at St Michael's Church. The church pickups are being managed under the banner of "Toronto Farmers Market Collective" which some of us are members of. It is a member led organization, and is based on principles of fairness and collaboration. The Collective has its own website and Localline Farmer's Market Hub. When you go in for pick ups, there will be many familiar vendor faces helping you with your purchases. To clarify: If you just want to shop from Marvellous Edibles you can go to our webstore like you always do, place your order, choose The St Michael's Church Location for your pick up, (replacing the Wychwood Barns), and you are done! The same applies to all the vendors you normally place pre-orders from. If you are looking for an "in person" shopping experience, we are at Evergreen Brickworks with our very busy stand. On the other hand, if you want, you will have a chance to shop from multiple vendor members of the Collective for a more complete online "Farmer's Market Experience". In order to be able to do this, you can log on to the Collective's web store and shop. Here is the usual link to Localline/Marvellous Edibles. https://www.localline.ca/marvellous-edibles-farm. The link to the Collective's website: https://farmersmarketcollective.ca Looking forward to seeing you all at St Michael & All Angels on Saturday, November 7! Ayse, Jens and Cengiz

Hello Everyone, (Oct 26) With the cooler weather, we are approaching the end of the Wychwood Barns summer market. Brickworks will go on another 2 weeks. We are very excited about the pick up locations for the Toronto Farmers Market Collective we have formed. More information is forthcoming. We have decided Marvellous Edibles will keep a presence in both the pick up at church and Wychwood Barns because we have been allocated only 2 Saturdays there. About 18 of your favorite ve...ndors will have pick ups at the church and will enhance your shopping experience. Laurie from Delish Kitch put all the information together about participating vendors and if you're curious, here is the link: https://delishkitch.ca/st-michaels-vendor-led-pick-up-guide/ Back to the farm: I think we may see some snow flakes overnight, hopefully it will not accumulate. I have a feeling it is going to be a high precipitation winter. Snow clearing is a full time job for poor Jens! This time of the year we say goodbye to the summer interns and welcome the winter ones. These guys will learn about growing greens late in the season and lots of greenhouse work. Our customers will notice some familiar faces disappear and new ones replace them. This week, we will still have whole ducks and duck pieces, chickens and chicken pieces. I am sure we still have some tomatoes and peppers, spinach is almost ready but everything grows so slowly right now! If you go on our web store, you will notice I moved all the root veggies under the heading of Roots. I added mixed baby potatoes and mixed baby root veggies for those who want to try all the different flavours. And we will finally have sauerkraut! For those of you looking for larger cabbages for cabbage rolls and kraut send me a note pls, we have plenty and will bring some on order. That's it for this week! Here is the link to the store: https://www.localline.ca/marvellous-edibles-farm. Looking forward to seeing all at the markets and please don't forget the egg cartons if you have any looking for a home! See more
